The Most-Asked Questions We Get About Skincare β Answered
Ever wondered if you should keep your skincare in the fridge? Or why we donβt make the Beauty Balm in a jumbo size? Youβre not alone! We get asked these questions all the time, so I thought Iβd share the real answers β the same ones I give in the shop. From how to store your products to what we recommend for rosacea, acne, and even young skin, hereβs everything youβve been curious about (and maybe a few things you didnβt know you wanted to ask).
Whatβs the Shelf Life of Natural SkincareβAnd How to Make Yours Last
If youβve ever watched strawberries go from plump to βhmm, not today,β you already understand natural skincare. Just like fresh produce, the closer you are to the production date, the better the experienceβscent, texture, and potency. That doesnβt mean everything suddenly βgoes badβ on day 366, but it does mean freshness matters.
First things first: always check your dates
Skincare doesnβt follow one universal clock. Each formula ages differently based on water content, oils, packaging, and how you store and use it. Thatβs why youβll see two dates on Simple Body packaging:
SB = the date the product was made (think βStart Batchβ).
BB = the Best By date (our freshness window for peak performance).
Most retailers mark items down as they approach the BB date so they can sell and be used while theyβre still at their best.
Water-based products: why a preservative is non-negotiable
Any product that contains water (toners, creams, gels, serums) must include a preservative system to prevent yeast, mold, and bacteria from growing. Itβs a safety step for youβfull stop.At Simple Body, we use a gentle, nature-identical system (dehydroacetic acid and benzyl alcohol) and we challenge-test our water-based formulas in a lab. With normal use and good storage, these products carry a one-year shelf life from the SB date.
What that means for you: Enjoy them regularly. Donβt stash them in a drawer for βsomedayββskin benefits compound with consistent use.
Oil-only formulas: great, but not immortal
Oils donβt need a traditional water-phase preservative, but they can oxidize over time (thatβs the path to βrancidβ). We still mark our oil-forward products with a one-year Best By date. After a year, it doesnβt necessarily mean unsafeβit often means reduced potency and changes in aroma or color. Antioxidants (like vitamin E) help, but they donβt freeze time.
How to spot oxidation: a crayon-like or cardboard smell, deepened color, or a tacky feel that wasnβt there before.
A special note about Beauty Balm (read this before you save it)
Our Beauty Balm is boosted with ascorbyl glucoside (a vitamin C derivative). Vitamin C is famously sensitive to heat, light, and airβso even in a well-designed balm, it degrades faster than other actives. We cap it at a 6-month shelf life.Translation: use it daily after purchase. Donβt wait for a βspecial occasion.β Your future face will thank you.
Packaging matters (a lot): pumps > droppers
Weβve moved many formulas to treatment pumps rather than droppers. Why?
Less air exposure: Every open-close cycle invites oxygen in, which speeds up oxidation.
Fewer contaminants: Droppers can touch skin or surfaces; pumps reduce that risk.
Consistent dosing: You get what you need without overhandling the formula.
We also use amber packaging to cut down on light exposureβanother freshness win.
Storage rules that extend freshness
Think like a chef storing good olive oil:
Keep it cool and dark. A closed cupboard (not a sunny shelf or hot bathroom) is ideal.
Mind the lid. Oxygen is sneaky; close products tightly after each use.
Keep the white seal. If your product ships with an inner seal, keep using it with the lidβextra air barrier = extra time.
Clean hands only. Preservatives control a lot, but not endless re-introductions of microbes. Use a clean spoon or freshly washed fingers.
Shower PSA: That steamy micro-sauna is tough on actives. Store outside the shower when you can.
βCan I use it past the Best By date?β
Short answer: sometimes, yesβwith your senses and common sense. If it looks, smells, and feels as it did originallyβand youβve stored it wellβitβs often fine shortly past BB. If you notice separation that doesnβt recombine, off smells, color shifts, or irritation on application, itβs time to let it go.
Quick glossary: freshness, simplified
SB date: When it was made.
BB date: When we suggest using it by for peak results.
Preservative (water-based): Stops microbe growth to keep you safe.
Oxidation (oils): Slow reaction with oxygen that dulls performance and can cause rancidity.
Your freshness checklist
Use water-based products within 12 months (sooner is even better).
Use Beauty Balm within 6 months.
Store cool, dark, and dry; keep lids tight; keep that inner seal.
Wash hands or use a spatula before dipping.
Prefer pumps over open jars or droppers when available.
One last thoughtβuse the good stuff now
Natural skincare shines when itβs fresh. If you love something, use it daily. Your skin benefits more from consistent, regular use than from a shelf full of βIβll get to it.β We hope these tips will help you understand the importance of not overstocking your shelves with product, but rather buying new product as you use up your last container--you really will notice a difference in your skin!

The Best Natural Body Lotions for Fall: Lotion vs. Body Butter
The Best Natural Body Lotions for Fall: Lotion vs. Body Butter
Cool mornings, dry air, space heatersβ¦ fall is gorgeous, but itβs rough on skin. The fix is simple: give skin water + humectants to rehydrate, then oils/butters + a light occlusive to trap that moisture in. Thatβs where our Body Lotion and Body Butter make a perfect tag team.
Quick takeβWhich one do I use?
Body Lotion: Everyday, fast-absorbing moisture after the shower (all over).
Body Butter: Rich, cushiony nourishment for rough zones (feet, elbows, hands) or extra-dry days.
Power move: Lotion first on damp skin, then a thin layer of Butter where youβre driest.
Why fall = dry skin (and what helps)
Lower humidity outdoors + heated indoor air = more transepidermal water loss (TEWL). You feel tight, look a little dull, and flaky spots show up. The solution: pull in water (humectants), replenish lipids (emollient oils/butters), and seal with a breathable occlusive natural ingredient to help trap moisture in the skin so your products last all day!
How our Body Lotion comforts dry skin
Water + chamomile hydrosol: Rehydrates the outer layers and feels soothing on weather-worn skin.
Glycerin (humectant): Pulls water into the skinβs surface and helps retain moisture in the skin.
Apricot kernel oil: Lightweight emollient that smooths flaky texture without heaviness.
Organic jojoba oil: Skin-friendly lipid that mimics natural sebum for a comfortable, balanced feel. It also acts as an occlusive, which helps keep other key ingredients IN the skin!
Olive-derived emulsifier (cetearyl olivate & sorbitan olivate): Blends water and oils for a silky, non-waxy finish. Also acts as an emollient keeping skin soft and smooth.
Vitamin E + grapefruit seed extract: Antioxidants that support ingredients to prevent them from oxidizing.
Gentle preservative (dehydroacetic acid + benzyl alcohol): Keeps this water-based product safe from yeast, mold, and bacteria.
Essential oils/unscented: Subtle aromatic finishβunscented available for those with sensitive skin.
Feel on skin: Lightweight feeling. Medium absorption rate. As the lotion passes slowly through the lipid barrier, it softens skin.
How our Body Butter nourishes dry skin
Water + chamomile hydrosol: Adds loads of hydration and soothes wind-stressed skin and overly dry skin.
Glycerin (humectant): Draws in moisture and helps retain it in the skin.
Apricot, sweet almond, avocado oils: Lipid-rich emollients that nourish dry areas and soften rough texture.
Kokum, shea, cocoa butters: Each butter plays a different role in the formula, but they all have deeply moisturizing, soothing properties that help your skin feel hydrated all day.
Olive-derived emulsifier: Combines our water and oil based ingredients and also acts as an emollient to soften dry skin.
Arrowroot powder: Helps balance the formula so it doesn't feel greasy on skin.
Calendula oil: Herbal oil that helps control itching from dry skin.
Vitamin E: An antioxidant that prevents oils from oxidizing
Gentle preservative (dehydroacetic acid + benzyl alcohol): Protects the formula from bacterial growth.
Feel on skin: Creamy, thick and richβwithout a greasy finish. (Very different from a "whipped" body butter)
Lotion vs. Butterβhow to choose day by day
Fresh out of the shower: Apply Body Lotion all over within 3 minutes (skin still slightly damp), then apply Body Butter on shins/elbows/hands.
Office or errands: Keep a Body Lotion at your desk or in the restroom for dry fall hands. Every time you wash, reapply a small amount to keep hands feeling soft and moisturized.
Hikes, windy days, or plane rides: Before you head out, apply Body Butter on exposed areas -- like hands for added protection against wind burn.
Night routine: Apply Body Lotion first, then a layer of Body Butter on all your drier areas. My favorite thing to do is apply the Body Butter to my feet at night, then wear a thin, cotton, white sock on top. I always wake up to better feeling feet!
Pro tips for real results
Amount matters: Our products are extremely concentrated, so you don't need to overdo it on quantity.
Weekly exfoliation: Use our Bamboo Face Polish all over weekly to help remove dead skin. This will help your products absorb and work better!
Storage: Store in a cool, dark cupboard; keep your lids on snug; and use clean hands or a spatula for the Body Butter.
Shelf life: Use within one year of the SB date for peak freshness.
No one likes the feeling of dry skin! So, if you stay on top of it by exfoliating and moisturizing regularly you don't have to suffer from that dry, tight feeling on your skin! Hope this helps you have a fabulous Fall, I know I'm looking forward to the seasons changing!

How to Tell If Youβre Over-Exfoliating (*and What to Do About It)
Exfoliation feels good, doesnβt it? Thereβs something about buffing away that dull top layer of skin that makes you feel instantly fresher. But hereβs the tricky part: too much of a good thing can backfire. If youβve ever noticed your skin looking more irritated than radiant, thereβs a chance youβre over-exfoliating. Letβs break down what that looks likeβand how to reset.
First Things First: What Exfoliation Does
Your skin naturally sheds dead cells, but sometimes it needs a little help. Thatβs where exfoliation comes inβwhether itβs a physical scrub (like Bamboo Face Polish) or a chemical option (like a Pumpkin Enzyme Mask or an AHA Facial Tonic). Done right, exfoliation helps smooth texture, brighten tone, and even boost product absorption. Done too often? It can compromise your skin barrier and make things worse.
Signs Youβre Over-Exfoliating
So, how do you know when youβve crossed the line? Watch for these red flags:
Redness that lingers β not just a healthy flush, but irritation that sticks around.
Increased sensitivity β your go-to serum or moisturizer suddenly stings or burns.
Flaky patches β ironic, right? Too much exfoliation can actually cause peeling.
Breakouts β when your barrier is damaged, bacteria can sneak in more easily.
Tight, shiny skin β not in a good way; think plastic-like rather than glowy.
What to Do If Youβve Overdone It
If your skin is showing any of the above signs, donβt panic. Hereβs how to nurse it back:
Press pause β stop exfoliating for at least a week to 10 days to give your skin time to repair and rebuild.
Simplify your routine β think gentle foaming facial cleanser, hydrating serum, and a nourishing moisturizer.
Replenish your barrier β look for ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or fatty acid-rich oils.
Stay protected β your skin is extra vulnerable, so daily SPF is non-negotiable.
How to Exfoliate the Right Way
When youβre ready to ease exfoliation back in, moderation is everything. For most skin types:
1β2 times a week is plenty for scrubs or polishes.
Gentle acids or enzyme masks can also be used weekly, depending on your skinβs tolerance.
Listen to your skin β itβs clichΓ© but true. If your skin feels tight, hot, or looks shiny, scale back.
The Bottom Line
Exfoliation should leave your skin soft and glowingβnot raw and reactive. If you remember one thing, let it be this: less is often more. Treat your skin with patience, balance your routine, and it will reward you with lasting radiance.
Does Natural Skincare Work for Acne?
Acne has a way of showing up at the most inconvenient times. And if youβve ever stood in a drugstore aisle surrounded by harsh chemical cleansers and spot treatments, youβve probably wondered: Would natural skincare actually helpβ¦ or is it too gentle or ineffective to really work?
Letβs clear the air: natural doesnβt mean ineffective. In fact, for many people, natural skincare can be exactly what stubborn, stressed-out skin needs.
Why Harsh Isnβt Always Better
Traditional acne products often rely on strong ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid at high concentrations. They can help in the short term, but they also tend to strip your skin, leaving it dry, irritated, and more prone to inflammation. Itβs a cycle: dry skin produces more oil, clogged pores form, and breakouts return.
Natural skincare takes a different approachβit supports your skin barrier instead of breaking it down.
How Plant-Based Skincare Helps With Acne
Hereβs where natural skincare shines:
Gentle cleansing β Instead of harsh sulfates, natural cleansers use plant-based surfactants that remove dirt and excess oil without throwing your skin off balance.
Soothing botanicals β Ingredients like chamomile, calendula, and green tea calm irritation and redness.
Balancing oils β Jojoba and grapeseed oils mimic your skinβs natural sebum, which helps regulate oil production.
Natural exfoliants β Enzymes from fruit extracts or gentle acids smooth skin and keep pores clear without sandpapering your face.
Real Talk: Itβs Not Instant
Hereβs the thingβnatural skincare isnβt about quick fixes. Acne is complex, and your skin needs time to adjust. You may not see overnight results, but with consistency (and patience), many people notice healthier, calmer skin that breaks out less often.
A Holistic View
Acne doesnβt just come from what you put on your skin. Stress, hormones, diet, and lifestyle all play a role. Natural skincare is a powerful piece of the puzzle, but pairing it with healthy habitsβhydration, sleep, whole foodsβcreates the best results.
The Takeaway
So, does natural skincare work for acne? Yesβespecially if youβre looking for long-term balance rather than a quick band-aid. By choosing products that support your skin barrier and calm inflammation, you give your skin the chance to heal, not just react.
Natural skincare may not promise βovernight miracleβ results, but it does something more important: it helps your skin feel strong, resilient, and cared for. And thatβs the foundation for clearer skin.

Your Skin Doesnβt Need to Be βFixedβ β It Needs to Be Heard
I used to think skincare was all about correction. Fine lines? Correct them. Breakouts? Correct them. Dryness? Correct it. Every magazine headline, every commercial, every product label seemed to echo the same message: your skin is flawed, and itβs your job to fix it.
But one day it hit meβmy skin wasnβt broken. It wasnβt misbehaving. It was talking. Every patch of dryness, every breakout, every bit of redness was a signal. My body was trying to tell me something. I just had to start listening!!
And the moment I shifted from βHow do I fix this?β to βWhat is my skin saying?β everything about my routine changed.
Why Weβre Conditioned to βFixβ Our Skin
Itβs not your fault if youβve ever felt like your skin was an enemy. We live in a culture where flawless skin is treated as the ultimate standard of beauty. Advertisements are designed to highlight your insecurities, promising instant results if only you buy the right product.
But hereβs the truth: skin isnβt static. It changes with the weather, with hormones, with diet, with stress, with age. Expecting it to look the same every single day is a little like expecting the sky to always be blue.
So instead of βfixing,β what if we practiced listening?
The Language of Your Skin
Your skin has its own way of communicatingβand once you start paying attention, the messages become clearer.
Dryness and tightness might be your barrier whispering, βI need more hydration.β
Breakouts could be your body waving a flag about stress, hormones, or even digestion.
Redness or irritation is often your skinβs way of saying, βSomething in this routine is too harsh for me.β
Fine lines and uneven tone arenβt βflawsβ at allβtheyβre natural expressions of a life well lived.
Instead of seeing these signs as problems, you can see them as conversation starters. Also, please remember---a product that works well for someone else may not work well for YOU! Everyones skin is individual and root causes for skin issues are different from person to person.
Four Gentle Ways to Really Hear Your Skin
1. Pause Before Reacting
Itβs tempting to reach for the strongest scrub or the newest trending serum the second something flares up. But quick fixes often make things worse. Give your skin a moment. Sometimes rest, gentle cleansing, and consistent hydration are maybe all it really needs. The point is...when your skin is reacting --Β don't ADD to your routine think more about taking away from your routine. Go back to basics and see if that helps!
2. Keep a βSkin Journalβ
This doesnβt have to be elaborate. A quick note in your phone when you notice dryness, breakouts, or irritation can help you connect the dots. You might find that certain foods, stress levels, or even laundry detergents are playing a role. Pay attention closely to this...on more than one occasion I've worked with a client who's skin is breaking out and after a deep analysis of lifestyle, products and food, we discovered laundry soap (even natural~!), a new piece of clothing (hats especially!) or a new cleaning product was the culprit! Everything is connected and your environment plays a BIG role in your skin's health.
3. Simplify Your Products
More isnβt always better. A shelf full of actives, acids, and treatments can overwhelm your skin. Sometimes a plant-based cleanser, a hydrating serum, and a nourishing moisturizer are plenty. Think of it as giving your skin fewer voices to compete with so you can hear what itβs really saying. Sometimes your skin won't react immediately to a product, but it's over time that the product can cause issues with your skin. Over exfoliating...or too much of an active can take time to wear down your skin barrier. So, don't always think because you've been using a product for a while and you didn't react initially--that it's still ok! Minimize your routine and see if one of your actives or exfoliants is the issue!
4. Treat Care as Respect, Not Punishment
Skincare doesnβt need to feel like damage control. A slow facial massage with your favorite oil, a few deep breaths while applying your moisturizer, or simply choosing formulas that are gentle and naturalβthese are all ways of saying, βI hear you, and Iβm here for you.β Your skin is your largest organ...it's important to remember that! Your skin responds to how you treat it that includes talking kindly to yourself. Your skins most important role is protecting you ... so take a moment and show your skin some love! Maybe give yourself a little massage with Body Butter, or take a minute to rub some lotion on the feet that get you through each day, or rub some oil on your cuticles. When you take time to do these things, it's not only showing your skin respect, but it's making you pay attention to your skin and what it's telling you!
When Listening Changes the Relationship
Hereβs the beautiful part: when you stop fighting your skin, the pressure eases. Instead of chasing perfection, you start noticing patterns. Instead of throwing products at every new blemish, you respond thoughtfully. And instead of resenting your reflection, you meet it with a little more compassion.
Over time, this shift turns skincare from a to-do list into a ritual. It becomes less about erasing and more about supporting, less about flaws and more about connection.
Why Plant-Based Skincare Fits So Well Here
Nature already knows how to nurture. Ingredients like chamomile, calendula, rosehip, or jojoba donβt bully your skin into submissionβthey support its natural rhythms. They hydrate, soothe, protect, and balance without silencing the signals your body is sending.
Plant-based skincare is about partnership: working with your skin, not against it. And when you start listening, you realize how much your skin thrives on that gentler touch.
A Final Thought
Your skin doesnβt need to be βfixed.β It needs to be heard. Every fine line is part of your story. Every change in texture or tone is part of your bodyβs language.
The more you listen, the more youβll understandβand the more peaceful, respectful, and compassionate your relationship with your skin will become.

What Itβs Really Like to Build a Skincare Brand in a Tiny Space
Building a skincare brand in a tiny, very visible production space comes with quirks, challenges, and a surprising amount of freedom. Hereβs why we still choose to make everything in-houseβand why it serves our customers better than anything else.
Why We Use Glass (and What It Says About Our Values)
When most people think about skincare, they picture silky serums, velvety creams, or the fresh scent of botanicals. Packaging? Itβs usually an afterthought. But hereβs the truth: what holds your skincare matters almost as much as whatβs inside it.
Thatβs why weβve made the conscious choice to use glassβnot plasticβfor our products. On the surface, it may seem like a small detail. In reality, itβs a decision woven into the core of our values: protecting your health, protecting the planet, and protecting the integrity of every formula we create.
Glass Protects Whatβs Inside
Plant-based skincare ingredients are naturally potent, but theyβre also sensitive. Cold-pressed oils, botanical extracts, and vitamins like C and E can break down faster when exposed to light, air, or reactive packaging.
Unlike some plastics, glass is non-porous and chemically stable. That means it doesnβt leach microplastics or endocrine-disrupting chemicals into your serum or moisturizer. Itβs an inert container, which simply means what goes in stays exactly as it was meant to beβpure, safe, and effective.
We also use amber glassβthat beautiful brown tone isnβt just for looks. Amber glass naturally filters UV light, shielding delicate antioxidants and botanicals from damage. This extends the shelf life of your products and ensures that the formulas you trust stay active and effective until the very last drop.
Glass Protects Whatβs Outside, Too
Now letβs talk about the bigger picture. Every year, about 300 million tons of plastic are produced globally, and at least 14 million tons of it end up in the ocean. Once there, it doesnβt disappearβit breaks down into microplastics, tiny fragments that are now found in sea salt, drinking water, and even human bloodstreams.
That reality makes every packaging choice count. Glass is different. Itβs:
Infinitely recyclable: Unlike plastic, which can only be recycled a limited number of times, glass can be melted down and reshaped endlessly without losing quality.
Reusable: Glass jars and bottles are sturdy enough to be cleaned and repurposedβwhether thatβs as a travel container, a bud vase, or a spice jar.
Lower impact over time: While glass takes more energy to produce initially, its durability and recyclability make it more sustainable in the long run.
By choosing glass, weβre reducing the demand for single-use plastics, cutting down on long-term waste, and aligning our packaging with the same natural integrity as our ingredients. Now, clearly some parts of the container must be plastic--like the lids and pumps, but still--choosing a glass vessel significantly reduces the amount of plastic being used with our products.
The Problem with Plastic in Skincare
Plastic packaging doesnβt just affect the planetβit can affect the very products it holds. Certain plastics may leach chemicals like phthalates or BPA, especially when exposed to heat or sunlight. Even BPA-free plastics often contain similar substitutes that can act as endocrine disruptors.
And while regulators debate the long-term risks, weβd rather take the safer route: no plastic, no leaching, no βmaybes.β Glass takes the guesswork out of safety.
A Reflection of Our Values
The truth is, packaging is never neutral. Every jar, pump, or bottle is a choiceβand that choice tells a story.
For us, glass packaging says loud and clear:
We believe in safety: your skin deserves formulas untouched by plastic residue or chemical leaching.
We believe in sustainability: our planet is worth protecting, and reducing plastic is part of that commitment.
We believe in transparency: in our values and, often, in our bottles. Clear or amber glass lets you see the product youβre getting, while also ensuring whatβs inside is shielded and preserved.
How You Can Join Us
We know one company choosing glass wonβt solve the plastic crisis. But change multiplies when people take small, collective steps. Here are a few ways you can make the most of your glass-packaged skincare:
Recycle consistently: Rinse out empty jars and bottles and place them in your local glass recycling bin. Unlike plastic, glass doesnβt lose quality after multiple cycles.
Repurpose creatively: Small jars make great travel containers for lotion or jewelry. Amber bottles can be rinsed and reused as mini bud vases or DIY essential oil sprays.
Support companies with sustainable packaging: The more consumers choose brands that prioritize glass and eco-conscious materials, the louder the message becomes to the industry.
More Than a Bottle
At the end of the day, a jar of cream or a bottle of serum is more than just packaging. Itβs a reflection of what we believe in: that skincare should be safe, effective, and respectfulβto your body and to the planet.
So when you pick up one of our amber glass bottles, know this: youβre not just holding a container. Youβre holding a promise.
Because glass isnβt just packaging. Itβs our values, made visible.

What Itβs Like to Be a Skincare Brand That Actually Talks to Its Customers
From the beginning, Simple Body has been more than jars and labelsβitβs been conversations. Real, human conversations that start with a question, a worry, or a story. Our products arenβt dreamed up in some faraway lab; theyβre shaped by the people who walk into our shop, send us an email, or lean in across a table and say, βDo you have anything forβ¦?β
Listening Is Where It All Begins
Take my friend Jen, for example. She was determined to cloth diaper her baby but worried about using commercial diaper creams. One day she asked me if I had anything for diaper rash. At the time, I didnβt. But her question sent me down a rabbit holeβresearching what really causes diaper rash, how to prevent it, and which ingredients treat the root cause instead of just masking it. In that search, I stumbled across a Native American recipe for a βwound healing salve.β It inspired what eventually became Skin Rescueβa product that now helps countless families just like hers.
And then there was the young waitress who worked at a nearby restaurant. Sheβd stop by after long shifts, sharing how the busy, greasy kitchen air was wreaking havoc on her skin. She was breaking out, and nothing she tried was helping. What she wanted was simple: a way to refresh her face during the day, to wash away the build-up without stripping her skin raw. That conversation became the seed for Clean Sweep. Today, she proudly tells people sheβs acne-free, and she credits it to that little spray bottle born out of her story.
These Stories Are Our North Star
Moments like these remind me why we do what we do. Itβs not just about formulating with beautiful plant-based ingredientsβitβs about responding to real needs. The best products in our line didnβt come from a business plan; they came from listening.
Every time you share with usβwhether itβs how your skin changes in the Colorado winter or that your teenager needs something gentle but effectiveβweβre reminded that this is a living, breathing conversation. And those conversations guide us far better than any trend forecast ever could.
Why It Matters
At Simple Body, skincare has never been a one-way street. Itβs a relationship built on trust, curiosity, and care. You bring us your stories, and we do the work of turning those stories into solutions. When you pick up a jar or a bottle from us, youβre holding more than a productβyouβre holding a collaboration between us and our community.
And that, to me, is the heart of being a skincare brand that actually talks to its customers. Itβs listening deeply, creating thoughtfully, and always remembering that the best ideas are the ones we build together.

How Storytelling Builds Stronger Skincare Brands
Skincare isnβt just about what we put on our faces. Itβs about who we trust. And that trust? It usually begins with a story.
Think about the last time you discovered a brand you truly loved. Odds are, it wasnβt a list of ingredients or a fancy label that won you over (though those help!). It was the feeling. Maybe it was the founder's journey with sensitive skin. Or a commitment to natural, non-toxic ingredients. Or how the products made you feel seenβlike they were made just for you. Thatβs the power of storytelling in skincare.
What Is Brand Storytelling (Really)?
Brand storytelling is the heart and soul of a company. Itβs not just a mission statement or a list of core valuesβitβs the real, lived experience that brought the brand into existence and continues to shape every product, every customer interaction, and every choice. For clean skincare brands like ours, that story often starts with a problem: sensitive skin, breakouts, ingredient overload, or a lack of trust in mainstream beauty.
And it usually ends (or begins again) with something more personal: healing, confidence, simplicity, and the joy of reconnecting with your skin.
Why Storytelling Matters More Than Ever
Weβre all bombarded with options. Walk into any store or scroll your feed and youβre met with hundreds of brands promising "radiance" and "anti-aging miracles." But customers are smarter now. Theyβre reading labels, researching ingredients, and asking tougher questions. And what they crave more than perfection is honesty. Thatβs where your story comes in.
Stories make us relatable. They humanize our business. They give context to our formulas and meaning to every drop of oil or botanical we use. When we share why we do what we doβnot just what we sellβwe create emotional bonds that last longer than any marketing trend.
A Great Skincare Story Can...
Build trust. Sharing your origin story shows your customers thereβs a human behind the brand who cares.
Create connection. People donβt just want a face cream; they want to feel understood.
Differentiate your products. When your story is unique, your products naturally stand out.
Inspire loyalty. Customers who align with your mission stick around, and they tell their friends.
The Simple Body Story
If youβve been with us for a while, you probably know that Simple Body was born from personal experience. Our founder, Jewels, was fed up with ingredient overload and tired of guessing what her skincare was actually doing. She went to school, studied natural formulation, and built a brand rooted in clarity, care, and connection. No fluff. No filler. Just real ingredients, real results, and a lot of heart.
We keep our story at the center of everythingβfrom how we formulate to how we show up for our community. Itβs not a gimmick. Itβs a promise.
How to Spot (and Share) an Authentic Brand Story
Whether youβre shopping for products or building your own brand, here are a few things to look for:
Consistency. Does the story align with the packaging, website, and social media?
Transparency. Are ingredients, sourcing, and process explained honestly?
Emotion. Do you feel something when you engage with the brand?
Humanness. Can you tell there are real people behind it?
Final Thought
In a world of curated feeds and polished promises, a real story cuts through the noise. It invites people in. It says, "Hey, we see you. Weβre just like you. And we made this for you."
So whether you're a skincare lover or a fellow maker, remember: the most powerful ingredient in your brand might just be your story.

How to Build a Simple Skincare Routine for Women Over 40
A simple skincare routine for women over 40 can do more than a complicated one when it focuses on hydration, barrier support, and the right targeted products.
Best Natural Skincare for Aging Sensitive Skin
If your skin has become more reactive with age, youβre not imagining it.
A lot of women notice the same shift somewhere in their late 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond: products they used for years suddenly feel too strong, skin starts looking drier or thinner, redness shows up more easily, and that βhealthy glowβ can be replaced by tightness, dullness, or a sort of unpredictable moodiness. Fun, right?
Hereβs the thingβaging skin and sensitive skin often overlap, but they are not exactly the same. And when both are happening at once, the answer usually isnβt to throw more products at the problem. Itβs to get gentler, more intentional, and a little more protective of the skin barrier.
If youβve been searching for the best natural skincare for aging sensitive skin, this is where to start.
Why aging skin often becomes more sensitive
As skin matures, it tends to hold moisture less easily and recover more slowly from irritation. That means ingredients, weather, over-cleansing, exfoliation, and even stress can feel more obvious on the skin than they once did.
And then hormones enter the chat.
During perimenopause and menopause especially, many women notice skin that feels drier, thinner, more delicate, or suddenly reactive. One day your skin is fine; the next itβs flushed, tight, or stinging from something that never used to bother it. That doesnβt mean your skin is fragile. It usually means it needs more support and less disruption. The skincare you used in your 20s probably isn't right for your 30, 40s or 50s.
This is where a thoughtful plant-based routine can really shine. Not because βnaturalβ automatically means betterβbecause it doesnβtβbut because well-formulated natural skincare can offer comforting oils, gentle humectants, soothing botanical extracts, and barrier-supportive ingredients without making skin feel overloaded.Β
What aging sensitive skin actually needs
When skin is both mature and sensitive, the goal is not to chase every wrinkle with a harsh active. Itβs to help skin stay calm, hydrated, and resilient enough to look healthier overall.
That usually means focusing on four things:
1. Gentle cleansing
Aging sensitive skin does not usually do well with that squeaky-clean feeling. If your face feels tight after washing, thatβs not a sign your cleanser is βworking harder.β Itβs often a sign that your skin barrier has been stripped a bit too far.
Look for a cleanser that removes makeup, sunscreen, sweat, and the day without leaving skin feeling dry or exposed. We love our Foaming Face Wash with soothing Lavender!
2. Hydration
Dryness can make fine lines look more noticeable, and dehydrated skin often looks a little tired even when youβre doing everything right. Hydration helps skin look softer, smoother, and more comfortable. Personally, I use our Face Cream by day and our Beauty Balm by night, since it's a little heavier and that feels better on my skin at night.
3. Barrier support
This is the big one. A healthy barrier helps skin hold moisture and better handle the world around itβcold air, indoor heat, wind, overactive products, all of it. Hyaluronic Acid is my favorite ingredient for helping preserve water in the skin and you'll find it in our Barrier Defense.
4. Gentle age-supporting ingredients
You do not need the most aggressive product in the room. In fact, if your skin is sensitive, youβll often do better with ingredients that support smoother, brighter, more comfortable skin over time rather than trying to force a dramatic result overnight. Our Age Supporting Kit contains gentle actives that help strengthen skin versus harsh actives.
What to look for in natural skincare for aging sensitive skin
Not every βcleanβ or βnaturalβ product is a good fit for reactive skin. Some are packed with strong essential oils, scrubs, or trendy actives that sound exciting but end up being too much.
A better approach is to look for formulas that feel steady and balanced.
Here are a few qualities worth paying attention to:
Gentle, non-stripping cleansers
Creamy cleansers, mild foaming cleansers, or oil-based cleansers can all work wellβas long as they rinse clean without leaving skin tight.
Humectants and moisture binders
These help draw water to the skin and keep it feeling more comfortable. Theyβre part of what gives skin that fresher, less wrinkly look.
Nourishing plant oils and butters
Well-chosen oils can help soften and support mature skin beautifully. The key is balance. You want comfort, not heaviness for the sake of heaviness.
Barrier-friendly support
This can include ingredients that help skin feel stronger, calmer, and less reactive over time.
Soothing botanicals
Think calming, comforting ingredients that help take the edge off redness or reactivity rather than stirring things up.
What to avoid when skin is aging and reactive
This part matters just as much.
Even beautiful skincare can be wrong for your skin if itβs too much, too often.
If your skin has been feeling sensitive, watch for:
Over-exfoliating
Using too many actives at once
Harsh scrubs
Strong cleansers
Highly fragranced formulas
Jumping from product to product too quickly
Sometimes the problem is not that your skin βneeds more.β Itβs that your skin needs a break.
Thereβs a strange pressure in skincare to always be doing something extraβanother acid, another mask, another treatment, another miracle in a bottle. But a lot of aging sensitive skin improves when the routine gets simpler, not busier.
A simple natural skincare routine for aging sensitive skin
If youβre feeling overwhelmed, start here.
Step 1: Cleanse gently
Choose a cleanser that removes what needs removing but leaves your skin feeling comfortable afterward.
In the morning, some women with very dry or sensitive skin do well with just a light cleanse or even a rinse, depending on what their skin needs. At night, cleansing becomes more important to remove sunscreen, makeup, oil, and the dayβs buildup. I often start with our Cleansing Oil, which is very gentle and doesn't sting your eyes when removing eye makeup.
Step 2: Use a tonic that adds comfort
A good toner is wildly underrated. Truly.
The right tonic can help reintroduce hydration, prep the skin for what comes next, and give mature skin that extra layer of support that often gets skipped. For aging sensitive skin, this step should feel calming and replenishingβnot sharp, stingy, or drying. I alternate between our Brighten + Boost and Age-Defying Tonic. Both have multiple botanical extracts that help strengthen and boost nutrients to the skin.
Step 3: Add a targeted serum
This is where you can support concerns like dryness, visible fine lines, dullness, or barrier stress without overcomplicating the whole routine.
A serum for aging sensitive skin should feel purposeful, not punishing. My favorite combination is a water based serum--like our Barrier Defense, combined with an oil-based serum like our Age Dense, that way I'm getting both hydration and moisturization.
Step 4: Seal in moisture
Finish with a moisturizer that helps skin stay soft, comfortable, and protected. If your skin leans extra dry, you may do well with a richer finish at night and something lighter during the day. The Face Cream is so terrific for the day time because it not only moisturizes all day, but is a great primer layer for makeup!
Step 5: Wear sunscreen during the day
If youβre investing in your skin, daily sunscreen is part of the picture. Sun exposure plays a major role in visible skin aging, and no serum is going to outwork that long term. Studies show that the sun can be attributed to 80% of extrinsic aging! So, it's critical to wear sunscreen! If you don't like the feel of traditional, heavy sunscreens or the white cast that most leave behind, try the Think Sun Serum. It's my favorite because it feels more like skincare than sunscreen and I've never been burned once while wearing it, so I know it's very effective!Β
The best natural skincare routine is the one your skin can live with
That may sound obvious, but itβs worth saying.
The best routine for aging sensitive skin is not the longest one. Itβs not the trendiest one. Itβs not the one with the most steps or the strongest ingredients. Itβs the one that your skin responds to consistentlyβthe one that leaves it feeling calmer, softer, and less reactive over time.
Thatβs why simple routines tend to work so well for this skin type. They reduce friction. They make it easier to notice what helps and what doesnβt. And they leave less room for the kind of product overload that often sneaks in when weβre trying really hard to βfixβ things.
A few signs your routine is working
Not every good skincare product creates some dramatic overnight reveal. Sometimes progress looks quieter than that.
You may notice:
Less tightness after cleansing
Skin that feels more comfortable throughout the day
Makeup sitting better
Less visible dryness
A softer look to fine lines caused by dehydration
Less frequent irritation or redness
Skin that just seems more settled
Honestly, βsettledβ is underrated. Especially if your skin has felt all over the place.
Final thoughts on choosing the best natural skincare for aging sensitive skin
If your skin is both mature and sensitive, you do not need to be aggressive to make progress. You need products that respect your skin, support the barrier, and help it function a little better day after day.
Thatβs usually where natural, plant-based skincare does its best workβnot in flashy promises, but in the steady, visible improvement that comes from hydration, comfort, and consistency.
So if your skin has been feeling dry, reactive, dull, or easily overwhelmed, come back to the basics: gentle cleansing, hydration, barrier support, and simple targeted care.
Because sometimes the most effective routine is the one that finally lets your skin exhale.

Gua Sha Isnβt About Sculpting Your Face (And It Never Was)
What are the Skin Benefits of Using a Gua Sha Tool
Somewhere along the way, gua sha became synonymous with a certain promise: a more sculpted jawline, lifted cheekbones, and a face that looks noticeably different after a few swipes with a stone. Itβs compellingβbut itβs also not what gua sha was ever designed to do.
Gua sha has roots in traditional East Asian medicine, where it was originally used on the body to support circulation and encourage movement of stagnant fluids. Facial gua sha is a gentler adaptation of that practice. The goal isnβt force, and it isnβt reshaping bone or removing fat. Itβs about encouraging circulation, supporting lymphatic flow, and helping the tissues of the face move and drain more efficiently.
The lymphatic system is often where confusion starts. Unlike blood circulation, lymph doesnβt have a pump. It relies on movementβmuscle contraction, breathing, and gentle external stimulationβto do its job. When lymph flow slows, fluid can linger in the tissues, especially in the face and around the eyes. This can show up as puffiness, dullness, or that βheavyβ feeling in the skin.
Gua sha helps by gently moving fluid along established lymphatic pathways toward drainage points in the neck. When that fluid shifts, the face can appear more defined or less puffy for a period of time. Thatβs where the illusion of sculpting comes from. Itβs temporary, and itβs related to fluid movementβnot structural change.
This is why pressure matters. More pressure doesnβt equal better results. In fact, aggressive scraping can irritate the skin, inflame capillaries, and work against the calming effect youβre trying to achieve. Proper facial gua sha uses light to moderate pressure, slow strokes, and plenty of slip so the tool glides without dragging.
This is also why our Gua Sha KitΒ is designed the way it is. Proper technique matters, and having the right amount of slip makes all the differenceβfor comfort, skin response, and results over time. The kit includes clear, step-by-step instructions along with three lightweight facial oilsβPomegranate Oil, Age Defense Serum, and Nightly Face Serumβso you can choose what your skin needs in the moment. Each provides enough glide to support gentle strokes without dragging or irritation, and the included gua sha tool helps guide consistent, intentional movement rather than guesswork.
Thereβs also a nervous system component that often gets overlooked. Slow, rhythmic facial massage helps activate the parasympathetic nervous systemβthe βrest and digestβ state. This can reduce facial tension, soften expression lines created by chronic muscle holding, and help the skin look more relaxed overall. That relaxed appearance is subtle, but itβs realβand it builds with consistency.
What gua sha doesnβt do is permanently lift tissue, eliminate fat, or replace the role of genetics, bone structure, or aging. Itβs not a shortcut, and itβs not meant to compete with medical or cosmetic procedures. Its strength lies in consistency and intention, not dramatic before-and-after photos.
When practiced regularly, gua sha can support healthier circulation, improved skin tone, reduced puffiness, and a stronger mindβbody connection to your skincare routine. Itβs a tool that works best when itβs treated as a ritual, not a hack.
In other words, gua sha isnβt about changing your face. Itβs about helping your skin function betterβand letting your natural structure show up with a little more ease. I hope that helps clear up confusion and make a good case for you to use your gua sha tool every night before bed!

Acne-Prone Skin Isnβt Oily SkinβHereβs Why That Matters in Skincare
Acne-prone skin isnβt just oilyβitβs often inflamed and dehydrated. Understanding whatβs really happening beneath the surface changes how you treat breakouts.
Dehydration Lines vs. Wrinkles
We all want smooth, youthful skin, but as time goes on, most of us will notice fine lines and wrinkles appearing on our faces. The good news is that not all wrinkles are created equal, and understanding the difference between dehydration lines and aging wrinkles can help you choose the right skincare routine to address your concerns. In this blog, we'll break down the differences between these two common skin issues, explain how to tell them apart, and share tips for treating both with our specially formulated skincare routines.
What Are Dehydration Lines?
Dehydration lines are fine lines that appear on the skin when it's lacking moisture. Unlike deeper wrinkles that are caused by aging and loss of elasticity, dehydration lines are more superficial and can often be resolved by replenishing the skinβs moisture. These lines typically appear across the forehead, around the eyes, and in other areas where the skin is thinner and more prone to moisture loss.
How to Identify Dehydration Lines
The key to identifying dehydration lines is to look at their appearance and behavior. Dehydration lines are usually finer and shallower than aging wrinkles. They may become more pronounced after washing your face or when your skin is dry. Additionally, they can appear suddenly and may be accompanied by dullness or a rough texture. If you pinch your skin and it wrinkles rather than bouncing back, you might be dealing with dehydration.
What Are Wrinkles?
Wrinkles, on the other hand, are a natural part of the aging process. As we age, our skin gradually loses collagen, elastin, and fat, leading to the formation of deeper lines and creases. These wrinkles often develop in areas of the face that are frequently used for expressions, like the forehead, around the eyes, and around the mouth.
How to Identify Aging Wrinkles
Aging wrinkles tend to be deeper and more permanent than dehydration lines. They are often more noticeable in areas of frequent movement and are less likely to disappear with simple hydration. Over time, these lines can become more defined and are accompanied by a loss of skin firmness and elasticity.
It's Natural, and It's Okay
Before we dive into how to address dehydration lines and wrinkles, it's important to acknowledge that these skin changes are completely normal. Everyone experiences them as they age, and there's no shame in it. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and tools to care for your skin in a way that helps you look and feel your best, no matter what stage of life you're in.
Skincare Routines for Dehydration Lines and Wrinkles
At Simple Body, weβve developed two tailored skincare routines designed to address dehydration lines and aging wrinkles. By following these routines, you can target your specific concerns and maintain a healthy, glowing complexion.
Skincare Routine for Dehydration Lines
If youβre dealing with dehydration lines, our routine focuses on replenishing moisture and protecting your skinβs barrier to prevent further moisture loss.
Step 1: Brighten and Boost Tonic
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Brighten + Boost Tonic
Our Brighten and Boost Tonic is the perfect first step in your hydration routine. This refreshing tonic helps to balance your skinβs pH while delivering a burst of hydration. Itβs formulated with natural ingredients that gently exfoliate and brighten your skin, preparing it to absorb the next steps in your routine more effectively.
Step 2: Wrinkle Defense Serum

Next, apply our Wrinkle Defense Serum. This serum is packed with hyaluronic acid, which is known for its incredible ability to retain moisture. It helps to plump the skin, filling in dehydration lines and giving you a smoother complexion. The addition of ceramides helps to strengthen your skinβs barrier, locking in hydration and preventing future moisture loss.

Skincare Goals vs. Skincare Routines
Skincare Goals vs. Skincare Routines: Why You Need Both
You know that feeling when you set a goalβlike finally tackling those fine lines around your eyes or getting your skin to stop feeling like sandpaper (that's what my sister Jill always says!)βand you feel totally fired up? But thenβ¦ life happens. You grab whateverβs nearby, slap on a product or two, and call it a night. Sound familiar?
Hereβs the truth: having skincare goals without a consistent routine is like buying all the seeds but never planting the garden. On the flip side, sticking to a routine without any goals? Thatβs just going through the motions. You need bothβa clear destination and a map to get you there.
Letβs talk about why this combo matters, especially if youβre in the process of evaluating the skincare you're currently using and shopping around for a new natural or plant-based skincare routine.
First Things First: Whatβs the Difference?
Skincare Goals = The Big Picture
Think of goals as your skin dreams. They're personal, specific, and driven by what you want to feel and see when you look in the mirror. For example:
βI want to reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles.β
βI want my skin to feel hydrated and glowy again.β
βI want to stop reacting to everything I put on my face.β
Your goals might change over timeβand thatβs okay. Aging, stress, hormones, weather, even dietβ¦ they all play a role. What matters is identifying what your skin needs now.
Skincare Routine = The Daily Practice
This is the βbrush-your-teethβ part. Itβs what you actually doβmorning and nightβto support those goals. A great routine includes:
Cleansing (gently, so youβre not stripping the skin either with our Cleansing Oil or Foaming Face Wash)
Toning or using a Tonic (to prep the skin and balance pH) Find ours HERE
Targeted serums (your workhorses, this is where you would pick them based on your skincare concerns). Find ours HERE
Moisturizers (to lock in hydration) Find ours HERE
Sun protection (every morning, no exceptions!!! Even if you're inside all day you're still being exposed to UVA and UVB rays!) Find our selection of All Good Sunscreens HERE
If goals are the why, the routine is the how.
Why You Need Both
1. Goals Keep You Motivated
When you know why youβre sticking to your routine, itβs easier to show up for your skinβeven when youβre tired or tempted to skip a step (especially at night!!). Itβs the difference between βUgh, I have to wash my face,β and βThis serum is workingβI canβt wait to see my skin in a few weeks.β
2. Routines Create Results
You canβt wish your way to firmer, smoother, more even-toned skin. Products need time and consistency to workβespecially natural, plant-based ones that nourish gently without synthetic quick fixes. Results happen when you show up for your skin every day.
3. They Keep Each Other in Check
Ever get overwhelmed by trying too many new products at once? Or frustrated that your routine isnβt doing enough? Thatβs where this balance comes in. Your goals guide what products you choose. Your routine gives those products the chance to actually do their job. If you feel like you're overwhelmed by the number of products in your routine, please call us (719) 375-0747 or schedule a skincare consultation HERE. We would MUCH rather have you using fewer products, but being CONSISTENT with your routine. That's where you will see your best results! By being consistent!
Letβs Break It Down with an Example
Goal: Reduce the appearance of under-eye wrinkles and puffiness.Nightly Routine:
Cleanse gently with our pH-balanced foaming face wash. Choose the wash based on your skin type.
Mist with a toner or tonic, again based on your skin type.
Apply Eye Defense Serum (packed with bakuchiol, rosehip, and astaxanthin)
Moisturize with our ceramide-rich serum: Barrier Defense
If you're also concerned with fine lines and wrinkles, top your routine off with our Age Defense Serum
Now youβre not just βusing products.β Youβre working toward something. And every day, you're taking small, doable steps in the right direction. I promise you, after just a week or two of following this routine, your skin will feel SO GOOD, you won't want to stop doing it! I hear this from our customers all the time! So many have said to me "I used to not wash my face before I went to bed, but now my skin is feeling SO GOOD, I WANT to wash my face before bed!!" It becomes a ritual, it's addictive! :)
A Few Helpful Tips for Setting (and Keeping) Skincare Goals
Be Specific β βBetter skinβ is too vague. Try: βI want fewer breakouts on my chin,β or βI want my cheeks to stop feeling tight.β
Start Simple β Donβt overhaul your entire shelf. Begin with 3β4 core products that match your skin needs. Our line is easy to follow. Each product is color coded to help you follow whatever your skin type is! Just to refresh you on the color system: Purple is for Aging; Blue is for Deep Moisture; Pink is for Normal to Dry Skin; Yellow is for Sensitive Skin; Green is Clarifying for Oily or Acne Prone skin. Now, there's not any reason why you can't MIX and MATCH! Not everyone will fall into a single category! Most people have combination skin and multiple skin concerns. So, don't feel like you have to follow a regimen from a single line. Do what works best for your skin!
Track Progress β Take a photo at the beginning, then again in 2β4 weeks. Changes can be subtle, but theyβre real. It's fun to watch your progress and it will motivate you to KEEP GOING! :)
Check In Seasonally β Your skinβs needs shift with the weather, so revisit your goals and routine with the seasons. We all know that the winter months can be drier, so double up on your moisture. When summer comes around and it's more humid, focus more on using clarifying toners so you don't experience breakouts in the humidity.
When to Get Support
If your skinβs sending SOS signalsβlike flaking, redness, breakouts, or it just doesnβt feel like you anymoreβit might be time to check in with a pro. At Simple Body, we offer free in-store and Zoom skincare consultations to help you build a routine that aligns with your goals (without overwhelming your shelf or your wallet).
Sometimes all you need is a fresh pair of eyes and a few thoughtful tweaks to get you back on track. I know from personal experience that sometimes it takes an outsider to take a fresh look at your skin and give you a professional evaluation. Sometimes, you're not as far from your goals as you think you are! Sometimes just a tweak or two to your routine and voila....your skin is back on track!
Final Thoughts
Hereβs the bottom line: Skincare goals give your routine meaning. And your routine brings your goals to life. Whether youβre looking to soften fine lines, rebuild your skin barrier, or just feel good in your skin againβSimple Body natural skincare can support you every step of the way. We're HERE for you!
Set the goal. Build the routine. Be patient. Your skin is listening. We're cheering you on!

Chapped Lips 101: Causes, Prevention, and the Best Lip Balm!
Chapped lips are more than just a cosmetic concernβthey can be painful, uncomfortable, and sometimes even embarrassing! Whether your lips feel tight, flaky, or cracked, itβs essential to understand the root causes and how to effectively combat dryness. In this post, weβll dive into what causes chapped lips and how you can keep them soft, smooth, and hydrated year-round.
Common Causes of Chapped Lips
Dehydration One of the most common causes of chapped lips is dehydration. Our lips donβt have oil glands like the rest of our skin, making them more prone to drying out. Without adequate hydration, the skin on your lips becomes parched, leading to cracking and peeling. Make sure youβre drinking plenty of water throughout the day to keep your lips hydrated from the inside out.
Weather Conditions Cold, dry, or windy weather can strip moisture from your lips, leaving them feeling rough and sore. Winter months are especially harsh, but sun exposure in the summer can also dry out your lips. Protect your lips with a moisturizing lip balm that acts as a barrier against the elements!
Licking Your Lips It might seem instinctual to lick your lips when they feel dry, but this habit actually makes things worse. Saliva evaporates quickly, leaving lips even drier than before. Plus, the enzymes in saliva can break down the delicate skin on your lips, leading to further irritation. It is such a hard habit to break, but trust me, it's worth it!
Allergic Reactions or Sensitivities Certain lip balms, lipsticks, or even toothpaste can contain ingredients that irritate the skin, causing redness, chapping, or peeling. Be mindful of fragrance, dyes, or chemical additives that might be causing a reaction.
Vitamin Deficiencies A lack of essential vitamins, particularly B vitamins and iron, can lead to cracked and dry lips. Incorporating a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help maintain healthy, moisturized lips.
Mouth Breathing Breathing through your mouth instead of your nose can dry out your lips rapidly, especially while sleeping. Try to address any underlying issues causing mouth breathing, such as nasal congestion. Whenever I am struggling with nasal congestion, I always use breathe right strips (https://www.breatheright.com/) - they have helped me so much!
Medications Certain medications, including retinoids and diuretics, can cause dryness as a side effect. If you suspect your medication is drying out your lips, talk to your healthcare provider about alternatives or supportive treatments.
The Best Lip Balms to Combat Dry Lips
If youβre dealing with chapped lips, itβs crucial to use the best lip balm to restore moisture and protect against further damage. At Simple Body, we offer an incredible range of best moisturizing lip balms that not only hydrate but also nourish your lips with natural, plant-based ingredients! Our best lip balm for dry lips is crafted from high-quality, nutrient-rich ingredients that work together to create a soothing and moisturizing barrier. Choose from our four delicious flavors:
Vanilla Mint (our #1 seller) - A refreshing blend of vanilla and mint that leaves your lips feeling cool and hydrated.
Cinnamon - A subtle, warm flavor that invigorates your senses.
Wintergreen - Perfect for a crisp, cooling sensation that revitalizes chapped lips.
Citrus - A bright, zesty flavor that feels uplifting and energizing.
Our best lip balm for chapped lips is formulated with nourishing ingredients like shea butter, beeswax, and essential oils, delivering long-lasting hydration to even the most parched lips.
Tips to Prevent and Heal Chapped Lips
Hydrate from Within Drink at least 8 cups of water a day to maintain moisture from the inside out. Dehydration is a primary cause of chapped lips, so make it a priority. I find that having a large water bottle, 32 oz or larger, helps me drink more water throughout the day.
Choose the Right Lip Balm Look for a best moisturizing lip balm with natural ingredients that lock in moisture and create a protective barrier. Avoid products with artificial fragrances and alcohol, as they can worsen dryness.
Avoid Licking Your Lips Train yourself to avoid licking your lips, no matter how tempting it may be. Instead, reapply your best lip balm to keep your lips feeling comfortable. People always laugh at me because I have a lip balm EVERYWHERE! My car, my purse, my desk, all over!
Exfoliate Gently Use a soft toothbrush or a homemade sugar scrub to slough off dead skin once a week. This helps your balm penetrate deeper and keeps your lips looking smooth.
Protect Your Lips Outdoors Apply a thick layer of best lip balm for chapped lips before heading out into harsh weather. This creates a barrier that prevents moisture loss.
Humidify Your Space If you live in a dry climate or frequently use indoor heating, consider adding a humidifier to your room. This keeps moisture in the air, helping your lips stay hydrated.

Understand the Difference Between Dehydration Lines vs.

5 Rules of Cleansing
5 Rules of Cleansing:
Achieve Radiant Skin
In the pursuit of flawless, glowing skin, cleansing is undeniably the cornerstone of any effective skincare routine. Without a proper cleanse, even the most expensive serums, creams, and treatments can't work their magic. This simple, yet essential step ensures that your skin is prepped and ready to absorb the benefits of your skincare products. But it's not just about splashing water on your faceβthere's a method to mastering the art of cleansing. Here are the five golden rules of cleansing that will help you maintain healthy, radiant skin.
1. Cleanse Morning and Night
Cleansing your face both in the morning and at night is crucial for maintaining clear and vibrant skin. While it may be tempting to skip this step, especially after a long day, the benefits of a consistent cleansing routine far outweigh the extra few minutes it takes. Morning Cleansing: As you sleep, your skin goes through a regenerative process, producing oils and shedding dead skin cells. Even though you may not see visible dirt on your face, these natural processes can lead to clogged pores if not properly cleansed. Starting your day with a clean face allows your skincare products to penetrate more effectively, ensuring that your skin remains balanced and ready to face environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays. Night Cleansing: At the end of the day, your skin is covered in a mix of makeup, oil, sweat, and environmental pollutants. Failing to remove these impurities before bed can result in breakouts, uneven texture, and even accelerated aging. During the night, your skin repairs itself, and a clean canvas is essential for this process to work optimally. Double cleansing is especially beneficial in the eveningβstart with an oil-based cleanser to dissolve makeup and sunscreen, followed by a water-based cleanser to remove residual dirt and oil. By making cleansing a twice-daily habit, you're not only preventing skin issues like acne and dullness but also creating the perfect base for your skincare products to work their best. Here are our recommendations for cleansers based on skin type:
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Best for Sensitive Skin.
Β Β Best for Normal, Dry, or Combination Skin.
Β Β Β Best for Mature, Oily, or Acne Prone Skin.
If you wear makeup, foundation, or use SPF (We hope so!), begin your cleanse with our cleansing oil!
2. Donβt Use Face Wipes
Face wipes are often marketed as a quick and convenient solution for cleansing, but they are far from the best option for your skin. While they may remove some surface makeup, they fall short when it comes to providing a thorough cleanse. Why Face Wipes Fall Short: The main issue with face wipes is that they tend to smear dirt, oil, and makeup across the skin rather than effectively removing them. This can leave behind residue that clogs pores and leads to irritation and breakouts. Additionally, many face wipes contain harsh ingredients like alcohol, which can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and sensitivity. The friction caused by rubbing wipes against the skin can also cause micro-tears, leading to long-term damage and premature aging. A Better Alternative: Instead of relying on face wipes, invest in a gentle, yet effective cleanser that suits your skin type. Oil-based cleansers are great for breaking down makeup and sunscreen without stripping the skin, while water-based cleansers help remove any remaining impurities. This two-step cleansing method ensures that your skin is thoroughly clean without being harsh or abrasive. Ultimately, while face wipes might be convenient in a pinch, they should not replace a proper cleansing routine if youβre serious about achieving healthy, glowing skin. If you're on the go, or like to exercise, keep a Clean Sweep Toner in your bag along with cotton pads. After you finish working out, use the Clean Sweep to immediately remove sweat, oil, and dirt. Your skin will thank you!
Use Clean Sweep Toner to remove oil, dirt, bacteria and sweat!
3. Rinse With Lukewarm Water
Water temperature plays a surprisingly important role in how effective your cleansing routine is. While it might be tempting to rinse with hot water, especially on a cold day, or to splash your face with cold water to wake up in the morning, neither extreme is ideal for your skin. The Dangers of Hot Water: Hot water can feel soothing, but it strips the skin of its natural oils, leading to dehydration and a compromised skin barrier. Over time, this can cause dryness, irritation, and even exacerbate conditions like eczema. Hot water also increases blood flow to the skin, which can lead to redness and inflammation, particularly for those with sensitive skin. The Limitations of Cold Water: On the other hand, cold water is less effective at dissolving oils and removing dirt, makeup, and sunscreen from the skin. While it may provide a refreshing burst, it doesnβt cleanse the skin as thoroughly as lukewarm water. Why Lukewarm Water is Best: Lukewarm water strikes the perfect balanceβitβs warm enough to effectively dissolve oils and cleanse the skin, but not so hot that it strips away essential moisture. After cleansing, your skin should feel clean but not tight or dry, which is a sign that youβve maintained its natural balance. Always finish your cleansing routine by rinsing thoroughly with lukewarm water to ensure that all product residues are removed, leaving your skin soft, smooth, and ready for the next steps in your skincare routine.
4. Use a Silicone Facial Cleansing Brush, If You Have One
While cleansing with your hands is perfectly fine, adding a silicone facial cleansing brush to your routine can elevate your cleansing game. These devices are designed to enhance the effectiveness of your cleanser, providing a deeper clean and promoting healthy skin. The Benefits of Silicone Brushes: Silicone facial cleansing brushes are gentle on the skin, making them suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. The soft, flexible bristles help to remove any residual dirt, oil, and makeup that may be trapped deep in your pores. Unlike traditional cleansing brushes with nylon bristles, silicone brushes are non-porous, meaning they donβt harbor bacteria, making them more hygienic and easier to clean. Additionally, the gentle vibrations or pulsations of these brushes can stimulate blood circulation, which promotes a healthy, glowing complexion. How to Use a Silicone Cleansing Brush: To incorporate a silicone brush into your routine, apply your cleanser to your damp face as usual. Then, use the brush in gentle, circular motions, focusing on areas where dirt and oil tend to accumulate, like the T-zone. Be sure not to press too hard, as the brushβs vibrations are enough to cleanse effectively without additional pressure. After a minute or two, rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry. Regular use of a silicone cleansing brush can lead to noticeably smoother, clearer skin over time.
This is OUR FAVORITE cleansing brush! And, very affordable!
5. Always Use a CLEAN Towel to Pat Your Face Dry
The towel you use to dry your face after cleansing might not seem like a big deal, but it can have a significant impact on your skinβs health. Towels that arenβt properly cleaned or that are used for other purposes can transfer bacteria and irritants to your skin, undoing all the good work of your cleansing routine. Why a Clean Towel Matters: Your face towel should be reserved exclusively for your face and should be washed regularly. Using a towel that has been sitting around for days or one that is used for your hands or body can introduce bacteria, dirt, and oils back onto your freshly cleansed skin. This can lead to breakouts, irritation, and even infections, especially if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin. The Best Towel for Your Face: Opt for a clean, soft microfiber cloth or a towel specifically designed for facial use. Microfiber towels are particularly good because they are gentle on the skin and highly absorbent, helping to remove excess water without irritating the skin. Always pat your face dry rather than rubbing, which can cause unnecessary friction and lead to irritation. By taking this simple step, you can ensure that your skin remains clean, healthy, and ready to absorb the benefits of your skincare products.
Here's a link to the microfiber cloths we love! They're only $8 for 3!
Conclusion
Cleansing is more than just a quick step in your skincare routineβitβs the foundation of healthy, radiant skin. By following these five essential rules of cleansing, youβre not only preventing common skin issues like acne, irritation, and premature aging, but youβre also setting the stage for all your other skincare products to work more effectively. Remember, consistency is key. Cleansing morning and night ensures that your skin is free from impurities and ready to take on the dayβor night. Avoiding face wipes, rinsing with lukewarm water, using a silicone facial cleansing brush, and always drying with a clean towel are small changes that can make a big difference in your skinβs overall health and appearance. Incorporate these tips into your daily routine, and youβll be well on your way to achieving the glowing, flawless complexion youβve always wanted. Β

How to Reduce the Appearance of Age Spots Using All-Natural Sunscreen
Those little brown marks that start appearing as we spend years in the sunβtheyβre commonly called age spots. While theyβre a normal part of aging, unprotected UV exposure makes them more visible and numerous. The great news? By switching to a thoughtful, allβnatural sunscreen and applying it properly, you can both help prevent new age spots and reduce the appearance of existing ones.
Weβll walk you through why mineral sunscreen matters, how to prep your skin, how to apply it for best resultsβeven how to reduce that tricky white cast many mineral sunscreens leave behind. Plus: why we now recommend the βthinkβ line of sunscreens in our shop.
1. Why Use an All-Natural, Mineral Sunscreen
Choosing an allβnatural sunscreen means choosing protection thatβs gentle on your skin and the environment. Mineral formulas (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) act as physical blockersβreflecting and scattering UV rays rather than absorbing them.
Key benefits:
Gentle for sensitive skin or conditions like rosacea and eczema. thinksun+1
Often enriched with botanical extracts and antioxidantsβso youβre getting sun protection plus skin nourishment.
Better for marine ecosystems (reef safe, no oxybenzone or octinoxate). allnaturaladventures.com+1
By swapping to a clean mineral formula, youβre giving your skin the best chance to fade existing pigmentation and stop new spots from forming.
2. How to Prepare Your Skin (and Avoid the White Cast)
Mineral sunscreens can sometimes leave a visible white cast, thanks to the zinc oxide or titanium dioxide particles. But a little prep goes a long way.
How to prep:
Cleanse your face to remove oil and allow even application.
Exfoliate gently (using a mild polish or enzyme mask) to remove dead skin cells so sunscreen sits flatter.
Moisturize with your Daily Face Cream (or lighter moisturizer) so the sunscreen glides on more evenly.
This base creates a smoother surface and helps pigments from appearing chalky or uneven.
3. How to Apply Your Sunscreen Properly
Good application matters. The best sunscreen wonβt work if itβs applied too thinly or missed spots.
Steps for proper application:
Choose broad-spectrum SPF 30+ mineral sunscreen.
Use enough: For face + neck, about a teaspoon.
Dot method: Place small dots of product on forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, neck.
Blend thoroughly: Use fingertips in circular motions; donβt forget ears, hairline, sides of neck.
Make sunscreen your last skincare step β no serums or creams on top.
Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors or after sweating/splashing.
Pairing this with a lightweight mineral makeup layer is optional but can offer extra coverage for ageβspot areas.
4. Protect Against More Than Just Direct Sun
We often think of sun damage as coming only from direct sunlightβbut there are other less obvious sources too.
Digital screens emit low levels of UVA/UVB and highβenergy visible (HEV) light, which can contribute to pigmentation.
Reflected UV from surfaces like water, sand, mirrored sunglasses, or even snow can bounce rays onto your skin.
Using your mineral sunscreen dailyβeven indoors or under lightingβhelps reduce cumulative UV and visible-light exposure that can worsen age spots.
5. Why We Love the βthinkβ Sunscreen Line
Since we no longer carry All Good, weβve shifted to the βthinkβ line of mineral sunscreens because they meet our standards for clean, effective, skin-smart sun care.
What sets them apart:
Non-nano Zinc Oxide formulas (no chemical UV absorbers) thinksun+1
Broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, water/sweat resistant options
Lightweight formulations designed to blend well and work under makeup
Reef-safe and environmentally conscious
We recommend two in particular:
Thinksport Clear Zinc Sunscreenβ―SPFβ―50 β great for face + body, daily wear.
Thinkbaby Clearβ―Zinc Sunscreenβ―SPFβ―50 β gentle, effective, ideal for sensitive skin or anyone avoiding chemical UV filters.
Final Thoughts
Age spots are commonβbut you do have control. By making smart sunscreen choices, prepping your skin right, and applying consistently, youβre giving yourself the best chance to fade existing spots and prevent new ones. Go mineral. Go thoughtful. Your skin (and our planet) will thank you.

The Benefits of Using a Facial Toner
Toners have made a comeback in a big way over the past few years. But not all toners are created equal, making it difficult to know which one is right for your skin. At Simple Body, weβre here to help you understand how toners can improve your skinβs health, where they fit in your skincare routine, and how to choose the best one for your unique needs.
Why Use a Facial Toner
Toners are lightweight liquids applied to the skinβeither as a facial mist or with a cotton padβimmediately after cleansing.Traditionally, toners were used to remove leftover residue from harsh soap-based cleansers. But modern cleansers are formulated to clean without stripping the skin, so do you still need toner?Absolutely!
A good toner can:
Tighten and minimize the appearance of pores
Provide an extra layer of hydration
Restore and balance your skinβs natural pH
Remove any remaining dirt, oil, or impurities
Prep your skin for deeper moisturizer absorption
How to Choose the Right Toner
Many toners contain astringent ingredients that help tissues contract and tighten, giving the skin a smoother appearance. Natural floral waters (hydrosols) and bark extracts make excellent all-natural tonics for this purpose.
Simple Body offers two toners designed for different skin types and needs:
Rosewater Facial Toner
Beneficial for: All skin types (use caution with sensitive skin)
Simple Bodyβs Rosewater Facial Toner is an infusion of Rosa damascena petals, cherished since the 7th century for its soothing, balancing properties.Rose offers numerous therapeutic benefitsβitβs rich in vitamin C, acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, and even supports emotional relaxation through its calming aroma. These qualities make rosewater a gentle, restorative tonic that hydrates, tones, and brightens the skin naturally.
How to use:After cleansing with your favorite Foaming Face Wash, close your eyes and mist Rosewater Toner on your face, neck, and dΓ©colletΓ©. Follow with Daily Face Cream in the morning and Nightly Face Serum in the evening.
Routine: Wash β Tone β Moisturize
Clean Sweep Toner
Beneficial for: Oily, combination, and acne-prone skin
Simple Bodyβs Clean Sweep Toner deeply cleanses pores without overdrying the skin. Formulated with Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) bark extract, it helps balance oil, reduce pore size, and calm blemishes. Hydrating aloe vera and essential oils with antimicrobial properties help unclog pores and prevent future breakouts.
How to use:After cleansing, apply Clean Sweep Toner with a cotton pad (avoid eye area). Follow with Daily Face Cream in the morning and Nightly Face Serum in the evening.
Tip: Even oily skin needs moisture! Using a moisturizer with oils that mimic your skinβs natural sebum can actually reduce oiliness over time.
Finding a Balance
You can easily tailor your toner use to your skinβs needs:
Combination skin: Use Clean Sweep only on oilier areas like the T-zone and Rosewater on drier areas.
Cyclical breakouts: Switch from Rosewater to Clean Sweep during hormonal flare-ups.
Dual routine: Try Rosewater Toner in the morning and Clean Sweep before bed for balance.
Remember to perform a skin patch test before full useβespecially if you have sensitive skin. Apply a small amount on the inside of your elbow and wait 24β48 hours to check for any reaction.
The Bottom Line
A toner is more than just an optional extraβitβs an essential step in creating balanced, healthy, radiant skin. Whether youβre drawn to the soothing qualities of rosewater or the clarifying effects of witch hazel, Simple Body has a toner that fits beautifully into your skincare ritual.
As always, stop by our Colorado Springs shop or contact us for personalized skincare guidanceβwe love helping you find the perfect match for your skin!

How to Care For Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin can be incredibly frustrating and painful to endure. So many people find their way to Simple Body looking for solutions to a lifetime of struggle. One of our favorite things is finding skincare solutions that heal and calm sensitive, irritated skin and change that frustrated, hopeless customer into a life-long Simple Body friend.
Β
What is Sensitive Skin
Β
Signs and Symptoms
Β
Sensitive skin is a sensory reaction with visible signs triggered by contact with something in the environment (cold, heat, sun, pollution, moisture). Symptoms include redness, flushing, rash, itching, stinging, burning, tingling, dryness, and skin thickening. Other visible signs of sensitive skin include acne, atopic dermatitis (acne, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, psoriasis), pimples, and erythema (red patches caused by irritation of superficial blood capillaries). The primary location is usually on the face but can occur on the forearms, hands, and scalp.
Β
Causes
Β
Cosmetics, climate changes, and skin barrier impairment are the main factors that contribute to skin hyperreactivity. Also, skin reactions can intensify when specific environmental changes are present, like low temperature, humidity, wind, heat, and sun exposure. Common triggers are fragrances, preservatives, emulsifiers, emollients, UV absorbers, certain foods, latex, and other chemicals. Unfortunately, irritating ingredients in cosmetics are primary triggers, especially if an individual has an altered epidermal barrier.
Β
Fragrance- 16% of the population has a fragrance sensitivity. If you have signs of sensitive skin, we recommend fragrance-free or unscented products.
Preservatives- are the most common cosmetic allergens in most personal care products. These include formaldehyde, parabens, isothiazolinones, thiomersal, and imidazolidinyl urea.
Emulsifiers and emollients- Two common allergens found in personal care products and cosmetics are Lanolin (sheep sebum) and Propylene glycol, often used as a solvent, humectant, and emulsifier.
UV absorbers- Several products containing UV light filters irritate sensitive skin, like benzophenone 3 and 4.
Β
Skincare for Sensitive Skin
Β
Simple Body recommendations:
Β
Moisturizers and lotions for dry skin can help maintain and restore skin barrier function and mitigate irritation and reaction. For most people, avoiding common triggers can help prevent reactions. However, skin is unique to each individual, and sometimes even natural ingredients are a problem. Thankfully, the prevalence of botanicals and essential oils in personal care products and cosmetics has increased over the past few years as people become more knowledgeable about harmful chemicals and toxic ingredients. Even though natural ingredients are remarkably better for your health and the environment, it is still possible for people with sensitive skin to react to them, especially essential oils.
Β
So, how can you avoid a significant reaction from a new ingredient? Besides avoiding common triggers, perform a skin patch test on a small, inconspicuous part of your body, like the inside hinge of your elbow (elbow pit). Apply a small amount of product and wait 24- 48 hours to see how your skin responds. If a reaction occurs, wash the area thoroughly.
Β
Simple Body has several options for people with sensitive skin, and we are happy to answer questions about which products to use for your particular skin challenges. In most circumstances, the routine listed below will work well for individuals with sensitive skin.

The Benefits of Layering your Moisturizer
With so many types of moisturizers on the market, choosing the right one for your skin type can be confusing. Do I use a cream, butter, serum, oil, or lotion? Proper skin hydration comes in many forms and doesn't always come in just one bottle. Layering your moisturizer has tremendous benefits for addressing your skin's specific needs. Let's walk through a few skincare scenarios together and discuss how to hydrate your skin by layering your moisture.
Scenario 1:"I don't have any pressing skin issues, but I need a little more moisture."Β
Wash your face with one of Simple Body'sΒ Face Washes, uniquely created with different skin types in mind: Rose Face Wash for mature skin, Chamomile Face Wash for sensitive skin, Lavender Face Wash for combination skin, and Peppermint Face Wash for oily or acne-prone skin. Next, use a toner to tighten and tone your pores: Rosewater toner for normal, dry, mature, or sensitive skin, or Clean Sweep Toner for acne-prone, combination, or oily skin. Then, moisturize your skin with Simple Body's Daily Face Cream. Appropriate for all skin types, we designed this cream with two purposes in mind: to penetrate deeply and form a protective barrier on the skin's surface. It is a fantastic cream for anti-aging.
At the end of the day, wash your face and tone just as you did in the morning. However, you will apply Simple Body'sΒ Nightly Face Serum instead of Daily Face Cream. Our serum blends certified organic extra virgin Olive Oil, Sesame Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Jojoba Oil. The properties of these oils combine to make an antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory-rich moisturizing serum perfect for nightly hydration. Additionally, we added a blend of essential oils that will help you relax and give you a better night's sleep, allowing your skin the time it needs to replenish and repair skin cells.
Scenario 2: "My skin feels dry halfway through the day."
Use a Face Wash, Toner, and Daily Face Cream in the morning. Then apply a small amount of anti-agingΒ Beauty Balm, especially to areas that need the most moisture. We use Jojoba oil, a humectant, to draw water into the top layer of the skin. This Balm also contains a large percentage of vitamin C and pumpkin seed oil. Both ingredients reduce free radical damage that can cause fine lines and wrinkles.
Before bed, wash your face, remove any makeup, apply a toner, and add nightly face serum for moisture. Finish by layering your moisturizer with Simple Body's anti-aging Beauty Balm, adding antioxidants and the nutrients necessary to replenish hydration to your skin.
Scenario 3: "My skin still feels dry all the time!"Β
Genetics, living in a dry climate, and working outside are a few reasons your skin may need an extra layer of protection and assistance to stay hydrated during the day. Begin with face wash, toner, Daily Face Cream, and anti-aging Beauty Balm. Then applyΒ Pomegranate oil to dry areas, dark spots, and fine lines and wrinkles. Pomegranate oil nourishes and softens skin, reduces puffiness, boosts collagen production, and evens skin tone. It also shields skin from the sun's harmful U.V. rays!
End the day with face wash and toner. Then, blend the Nightly Face Serum with a few drops of Pomegranate oil before applying it to your whole face and neck. Seal in moisture by applying anti-aging Beauty Balm to areas prone to dryness.
Scenario 4: "My skin is mature and feels excessively dry."
You may have had oily skin all your life and suddenly notice that you can't get enough moisture. As we age, our skin becomes less efficient at retaining hydration. Yet, another reason why layering is so essential! Your morning skincare routine will begin the same way with face wash and toner. However, before you apply your Daily Face Cream, hydrate your skin with Pomegranate oil and finish layering your moisturizer with anti-aging Beauty Balm (our FAVORITE natural anti-aging skin care product).
Use all three layers of moisture (Pomegranate oil, Nightly Face Serum, and Beauty Balm) before you go to sleep and wake up with glowing, radiant skin. So, by layering different kinds of moisture, you can treat varying degrees of dryness! Each person is beautifully unique, and so is your skincare routine! Knowing ways to work with your skin to give it what it needs to retain hydration, protect it from the stress of daily activities, and prevent premature aging at every stage of life, is easier than you think. Hopefully, this guide will give you the confidence to tailor our products to meet your individual skin care needs.
Shaving tip to Avoid Razor Bumps and Burns
For most of us, summer is the season when we start shaving above the knees again! Wearing skirts, sundresses, shorts, and swimwear requires us to step up our shaving game. Men have the unfortunate task of shaving year-round. We get questions from men and women alike asking for shaving tips to avoid razor burns and bumps. Have you ever wondered why you get razor burn or razor rash after shaving? Let's take a few minutes to discuss how to prevent common shaving issues and have smooth and healthy skin.
Β
STEP ONE: EXFOLIATE
Β
Good shaving hygiene requires some prep work! The most effective shave starts with a smooth surface. Exfoliating your skin can prevent dry, dead skin cells from building up and clogging your razor and, more importantly, your pores. Simple Body has several products to help you exfoliate before you shave. One of our favorites is the Bamboo Face Polish! Yes, I know, it says Face right in the name. However, you can use this all over your body to prepare your skin for shaving. Using eco-friendly, finely ground bamboo stem and white kaolin clay, plus the moisturizing power of cocoa butter and castor seed oil, the ingredients in this polish leave skin smooth, silky, and free of debris.
Β
STEP TWO: PRETREAT WITH OIL
Β
Next, pretreat dry skin with oil. Natural oils like apricot kernel, sweet almond, and sunflower seed oil provide the perfect base to feed your skin the rich moisture needed to prevent razor burn caused by dry, irritated skin.Β
Β
STEP THREE: SHAVE
Β
Now, you are ready for your favorite shaving butter or cream. But before you pick up your razor, you should know a few things about preventing razor burn. Did you know that using a dull razor, having dry skin, and shaving against the direction your hair naturally grows can all cause razor burn? Also, razor burn is more common in people with Keratosis pilaris. You may have had this your whole life and never knew what to call it. It is when keratin blocks hair follicles and causes tiny bumps to form, usually on the back of your arms or upper thighs, making it feel rough and bumpy. The cause is unknown, but regular exfoliation and moisturizing can smooth out skin and minimize your risk of getting razor burns when you shave.
Β
Another skin condition that can throw off your summer shave game is Folliculitis or razor rash. This condition occurs when bacteria or a blockage causes redness and swelling in hair follicles. You may have experienced razor rash if you have ever combined shaving with heat, tight clothing, and sweat. It is more common for people with naturally curly hair or other skin issues like eczema or acne-prone skin. Use Simple Body's Clean Sweep Toner as a preventative antimicrobial razor rash treatment. With ingredients like Aloe Vera to soothe inflammation and certified organic essential oils to keep fungus and bacteria at bay, the Clean Sweep Toner is a vital player in your summer shave game.
Β
STEP FOUR: SOOTHE
Β
After you shave, you will want to tighten your pores and soothe your skin. Using the power of plants, Simple Body's Skin Rescue is the perfect balm for the job. Two of the skin-healing botanical ingredients in this balm are Marshmallow and Yarrow. Marshmallow Althaea officinalis root is an antibacterial, cooling plant that softens and soothes hot, dry tissues. And Yarrow Achillea millefolium has so many properties that attenuate skin healing. It is antimicrobial to protect miner cuts from infection, astringent, meaning it pulls tissues together, and vulnerary, meaning it promotes healing. Believe me when I say, Skin Rescue to the rescue!
Β
STEP FIVE: MOISTURIZE
Β
Last but not least, moisturizer! If you love your skin, especially in a dry climate, apply Simple Body's Body Butter or Daily Face Cream (which is a fantastic cream for anti-aging). Three A+ oils that make our Body Butter special are Apricot, Almond, and Avocado. Apricot kernel oil is moisturizing and nourishing to the skin, Sweet Almond oil has a composition that closely resembles the lubricating oil (sebum) our skin naturally makes, and Avocado oil is full of nutrients that penetrate deep into the skin. Stay hydrated all day with one of Simple Body's four Body Butter choices: Unscented, Citrus, Lavender, and Himalayan Magic.
Β
By following these shaving tips and using the right all-natural ingredients, you can have smooth, razor-burn-free skin!
Β
Β
Product favs:
Β
We love this single-blade safety razor. It's better than multiple-blade razors and eco-friendly!Another staff fav is the EOS Dry Skin Shave Cream! It's super thick and leaves your skin soft as butter!

The Complete Guide to Dry Brushing: Benefits, How-To, and Why Itβs So Good for Your Skin
Our skin is one of the bodyβs most powerful detox organsβit works hard every day to eliminate waste, regulate temperature, and protect us from environmental stress. But like any hardworking system, it needs a little help to function at its best.
Thatβs where exfoliation comes in. Whether youβre using a Cotton Bath Pouf or Emulsified Sugar Scrub in the shower (a wet exfoliation), or practicing dry brushing before bathing, these simple habits support your skinβs natural renewal process and overall health.
Both methods are gentle, inexpensive, and effective, but dry brushing offers deeper benefits that go beyond smooth skinβit can actually support your entire bodyβs wellness.
Benefits of Dry Brushing
Dry brushing does more than just sweep away dead skin cells. Itβs a full-body ritual that promotes circulation, boosts energy, and supports detoxification.
Hereβs what makes it so powerful:
Lymphatic Stimulation: The rhythmic brushing motion encourages lymphatic drainage, helping your body flush out toxins and reduce inflammation.
Improved Circulation: Dry brushing invigorates the skin, stimulating both blood flow and the nervous system.
Exfoliation: Gently removes dirt, oil, and buildup that can clog pores or cause dullness.
Smoother, Softer Skin: Regular brushing helps soften rough areas and improve overall tone and texture.
Metabolic Support: The stimulation of the lymphatic and circulatory systems can even help boost your metabolism.
In short, dry brushing is one of the simplest, most natural ways to improve both skin and body health.
How the Lymphatic System Works (and Why It Matters)
About one-sixth of your body is made up of the space between cells. The fluid in that spaceβcalled interstitial fluidβflows into lymphatic vessels, which then carry it to your lymph nodes. There, waste products are filtered out before returning clean fluid to your bloodstream.
The lymphatic system relies on muscle movement to keep things flowing. If we sit too long, move too little, or carry too much tension, this system can slow down, causing puffiness, fatigue, or inflammation. Dry brushing creates a reflexive response in the skin and underlying tissue that helps re-energize this processβessentially βwaking upβ your bodyβs natural detox pathways.
How to Choose the Right Dry Brush
Not all brushes are created equal. The type of bristle makes a big difference in both comfort and hygiene.
What to look for:
Natural bristles are gentler and less likely to irritate dry or sensitive skin.
Avoid synthetic bristlesβthey can be too harsh and tend to trap more bacteria.
Choose a handle length that fits your needs:
Long Handle Dry Brush β ideal for reaching your back or legs.
Handheld Dry Brush β perfect for arms, dΓ©colletage, and smaller areas.
At Simple Body, we carry both cruelty-free, vegan, natural bristle options:π Body Dry Brush (Long Handle)π Handheld Dry Brush (Short Handle)
How to Dry Brush (Step by Step)
A few minutes a few times a week is all it takes.
Before you begin:β οΈ Avoid brushing over broken skin, cuts, eczema, acne, or sunburn.
How to do it:
Start with completely dry skin before bathing.
Beginning at your ankles, use gentle, circular motions, always brushing toward your heart.
Move up the legs, abdomen, and then arms, adjusting pressure based on sensitivity.
Once finished, shower as usual.
After bathing, nourish your skin with a rich moisturizer like our Body Butterβa blend of apricot kernel, sweet almond, and avocado oils with kokum, cocoa, and shea butters. It seals in hydration and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth.
How to Clean Your Dry Brush
Regular cleaning keeps your brush effective and hygienic.
To clean:
Place your brush bristle-side down in a shallow dish of warm water (avoid submerging the wooden base).
Add a few drops of Tea Tree or Eucalyptus essential oil to disinfect.
Swirl gently and soak for five minutes.
Rinse under running water, then shake out excess moisture.
Dry quicklyβuse a hair dryer for a few minutes or place in a warm, dry spot to prevent mold.
Clean your brush about once a month if you dry brush several times a week.
Wet vs. Dry Exfoliation
While dry brushing is great for deep stimulation, wet exfoliation with an Emulsified Sugar Scrub or Cotton Bath Pouf can be gentler for thin or sensitive skin. Both methods work beautifully togetherβalternate them depending on your skinβs needs and the season.

How Aging Skin Reflects a Life Well Lived
Our skin keeps a quiet record of every season weβve livedβlate nights, laughter, stress, and joy. In this personal reflection, founder Jewels Burdick shares how her view of aging skin has evolved from something to βfixβ to something to care for, and why glow looks differentβbut just as beautifulβat every age.
Skincare as a Way to Reconnect with Your Body
There was a time when I rushed through my skincare routine without even thinking about it. A quick splash of cleanser, maybe some moisturizer if I remembered, and off to the next task. Sound familiar? It wasnβt until life started moving a little too fastβwhen stress felt constant and my body began whispering its exhaustionβthat I realized those few minutes at the sink could be something more than a chore.
Skincare became one of the first ways I learned how to slow down and listen to myself again.
Slowing Down in a Fast World
We live in a culture that celebrates hustle. Emails at midnight, rushed meals in the car, collapsing into bed still scrolling our phones. In that rhythm, our bodies often get reduced to machinesβexpected to perform without pause. Skincare, of all things, offered me a crack in the noise.
When I take the time to wash my face at night, really wash it, I feel the warm water on my skin. I notice the way my hands move over my jaw, my temples. Itβs a reminder: Iβm here. This is my body. It deserves my attention.
The Power of Touch
Touch is underrated. We often think of it only in terms of how we connect with others, but the way we massage our skin matters too. Massaging in a serum isnβt just about absorptionβitβs an act of kindness, a message to the nervous system that says, youβre safe, youβre cared for.
Some evenings, that small act is the first time all day Iβve offered my body any tenderness. No rushing. No judgment. Just presence.
Listening to What Your Skin Tells You
Our skin has a way of telling stories before weβre even aware of whatβs happening inside. Breakouts when stress is high. Dryness when hydration has slipped down the priority list. Redness when weβve been pushing too hard.
Through skincare, Iβve learned to read those signals instead of ignoring them. Itβs not about obsessing over every blemish or fine lineβitβs about treating those changes as part of an ongoing conversation. What are you trying to tell me? What do you need right now?

Of course, I love beautiful, plant-based productsβthe scent of lavender water, the silky glide of jojoba oil. But the truth is, itβs not really about whatβs in the jar. Itβs about the intention you bring to the moment. That pause to breathe. That decision to nurture instead of criticize.
Some nights, skincare is simply skincare. Other nights, itβs the thing that grounds me. It reminds me that my body isnβt something to fight against or fixβitβs something to honor.
The Takeaway
Skincare can be more than a routine. It can be a ritual of reconnectionβa quiet reminder that youβre not just a mind racing through to-do lists but a whole being deserving of care. When we soften into those moments, skincare becomes less about achieving βperfect skinβ and more about cultivating a relationship with the body that carries us through it all.
And honestly? That kind of connection will show on your face in ways no serum ever could.

What Iβve Learned from Talking to Thousands of Women About Their Skin
Β
When I started Simple Body at the ripe old age of 38, I didnβt set out to build a skincare brand that would grow with me. But thatβs exactly what happened.
I wasnβt a twenty-something chasing trends or trying to keep up with whatever ingredient was having its βmoment.β I was a woman with dry skin, a few fine lines, and a deep desire to care for my skin in a way that felt real. No filters, no false promisesβjust healthy, balanced skin.
And as it turns out, that honesty attracted women just like me. Over the yearsβthrough markets, conversations in the shop, DMs from longtime customers, and late-night emailsβIβve talked to thousands of women about their skin. And through those conversations, I realized something powerful: weβre not all that different.
Weβve Aged Together
Many of the women who started with me fifteen years ago are still part of the Simple Body community today. Weβve walked through the same seasonsβraising families, working long hours, juggling life, and now navigating the changes that come with perimenopause and menopause.
Our skin has evolved, and so have we. The fine lines that once felt like flaws now feel like proof that weβve lived. And that shared experienceβof watching our skin shift and learning to care for it differentlyβhas shaped not only our routines but the entire Simple Body product line.
Dryness Is the Common Thread
No matter the season or the decade, dryness seems to be everyoneβs biggest complaint. Sometimes itβs from the Colorado climate. Sometimes itβs from hormonal changes. And sometimes, like me, itβs connected to something deeperβautoimmune issues like Hashimotoβs.
That deep, uncomfortable dryness isnβt just cosmetic; it can make you feel off in your own skin. Itβs what inspired me to create products that truly replenish, not just coat the surface. Because when your skin feels nourished, you feel nourished.
The Things We All Have in Common
After thousands of conversations, hereβs what Iβve learned about women and their skin:
No matter their age, almost everyone struggles to remember the right order to apply their products. (And yes, I still get that question weekly!)
Most women admit theyβre harder on their skin than they should be. Learning to love what we see in the mirror takes time.
We all have that one person whose skin we secretly wish we hadβsmooth, dewy, porelessβbut we rarely see their struggles behind the scenes.
Most women I talk to would rather not wear makeupβthey just want skin that looks and feels healthy enough to go without it.
And almost everyone worries about wrinklesβ¦ when really, theyβre just a sign that weβve laughed, cried, and lived full lives.
What these stories have taught me is that skincare is less about chasing youth and more about embracing ourselves exactly where we are.
We Want SimplicityβNot Perfection
Somewhere along the way, skincare got complicated. Ten steps, twenty serums, promises of βflawlessβ this and βperfectβ that. But the women I talk to every day? They just want products that work. They want ingredients they can pronounce and results they can feel.
They want to simplifyβbecause real beauty isnβt about perfection. Itβs about showing up in your own skin and feeling comfortable there.
Connection Is the Secret Ingredient
Every conversation shapes what we create. Every story, every shared frustration, every βthis might sound silly, butβ¦β moment helps us understand what women truly need.
Simple Body isnβt just about skincareβitβs about community. About being part of a collective of women who are learning to treat their skin (and themselves) with more patience, more kindness, and more grace.
Because underneath it all, weβre the same: we just want to feel good in our skin. Please keep sharing your stories and your lives with me. It's truly what keeps me going and I love connecting with you every day!

Clearing Space, Finding Calm: The Art of Cleaning Out Your Skincare Cabinet
Thereβs something strangely emotional about cleaning out your skincare cabinet. You open the door expecting to tidy up a few bottles, and suddenly youβre surrounded by the ghosts of routines pastβhalf-empty jars, that serum you swore youβd finish, the moisturizer that was almost perfect until your skin decided otherwise.
But hereβs the thing: this simple act of clearing space isnβt just about organizing. Itβs about creating a sense of calm, of care, and of mindfulnessβthe same qualities we want from our skincare itself.
When Did This Serum Expire (and Why It Matters)
Letβs start with the practical part. Every product has an expiration date for a reason. Once that date passes, the preservatives that keep bacteria and mold from growing start to lose their potency. Using expired skincare isnβt just less effectiveβit can actually cause irritation or infections because the formulaβs balance has changed.
Think of it like food: you wouldnβt eat yogurt thatβs been sitting in the fridge for six months past its date, right? The same goes for your cream or serum. If it smells off, has separated, or the texture looks different, itβs time to let it go.
And as you doβdonβt think of it as waste. Think of it as space.
The Beauty of Letting Go (Inspired by Japan)
In Japan, cleaning isnβt just about tidinessβitβs a spiritual practice, a form of self-respect. Several philosophies capture this beautifully, and they apply surprisingly well to your skincare routine.
Danshari teaches us to refuse, dispose, and separate. Refuse what doesnβt serve your skin. Dispose of whatβs expired or unused. Separate your worth from the number of bottles on your shelf.
KonMari, made famous by Marie Kondo, invites us to keep only what sparks joy. That cleanser that makes your skin feel calm and soft? Keep it. That trendy serum that never really worked? Thank it for teaching you what doesnβt workβand let it go.
Then thereβs Ma, the concept of negative space. Itβs the idea that empty space itself has value. Imagine your skincare shelf with just a few intentional items, displayed with care. Suddenly, it feels peaceful rather than cluttered.
And my personal favorite, Kiyomeruβthe idea of cleaning as meditation. Itβs about gratitude. As you wipe down each bottle or washcloth, itβs a quiet thank-you for what these small rituals have done for you.
A Streamlined Routine (That Still Feels Abundant)
Hereβs what happens when you declutter your skincare: you rediscover the beauty of simplicity. You start reaching for the same few products again and againβthe ones that actually work.
You might notice your skin looks better, too. Thatβs because an overloaded routine can confuse your barrier with competing actives and unnecessary layers. A minimal, consistent approach helps your skin find balance again.
Why βLessβ Feels So Good
Thereβs an unexpected joy in letting goβnot just of clutter, but of the idea that more products mean better skin. When you pare back, you get to know your skin again. You listen to it. You make space for rest and reflection.
Like Oosouji, Japanβs end-of-year βbig clean,β clearing out your cabinet is a ritual for renewal. Youβre not just wiping shelvesβyouβre wiping the slate clean for your next chapter of care.
And maybe thatβs the real secret to glowing skin: not another new serum, but a little more space, calm, and intention.

Itchy Skin? Causes, Relief, and the Best Natural Skincare Solutions!
Itchy Skin: Causes, Relief, and the Best Natural Skincare Solutions
If youβve ever dealt with dry, itchy, or flaky skin, you know how frustrating it can be. Whether itβs seasonal, caused by environmental factors, or due to a weakened skin barrier, itchy skin is often a sign that your skin needs extra nourishment and protection. In this guide, weβll explore the common causes of itchy skin, how climate affects your skin, and the best natural remedies to soothe and restore long-lasting hydration. Plus, weβll highlight key ingredients like chamomile and calendulaβboth known for their calming, skin-repairing benefitsβand our top Simple Body products to help relieve discomfort and bring your skin back to balance!
Common Causes of Itchy Skin
Itchy, irritated skin can stem from a variety of sources. Here are some of the most common:
1. Dryness & Flakiness
When your skin lacks moisture, it can feel tight, itchy, and appear flaky. Dry skin occurs when the skinβs natural barrier is compromised, leading to water loss and irritation.
βοΈ What causes dryness?
Cold weather & low humidity β Winter air pulls moisture from the skin.
Hot showers & harsh soaps β Stripping natural oils makes skin drier.
Dehydration & lack of nutrients β Internal hydration is just as important as external! Try to aim for half of your body weight in ounces, everyday! (Example: Someone who weighs 150 lbs, would want to drink 75 ounces of water a day.)
π‘ Relief Tip: Hydrate your skin inside and out by drinking plenty of water and using rich, nourishing moisturizers like our Body Butter and Body Lotion to lock in hydration!
2. Your Climate & How It Affects Your Skin
The environment you live in plays a major role in your skinβs hydration levels and can worsen itchiness and irritation.
βοΈ Dry & Cold Climates (Winter Months)
Low humidity levels can cause severe dryness, cracking, and itchiness.
Constant exposure to heaters and dry indoor air strips moisture from the skin.
π‘ Best Fix: Apply a deeply moisturizing product like our Body Butter right after showering to seal in hydration and protect the skin barrier.
βοΈ Hot & Humid Climates
Sweat and heat can lead to itchiness and irritation.
Overwashing the skin can strip essential oils, leaving skin dehydrated.
π‘ Best Fix: Use a lightweight but hydrating moisturizer like our Body Lotion to keep skin balanced without feeling greasy.
βοΈ Seasonal Changes
Spring and fall can bring fluctuations in temperature and humidity, leading to seasonal dry patches or irritation.
Allergies and pollen exposure can also contribute to itchy, sensitive skin.
π‘ Best Fix: Keep Skin Rescue on hand to calm irritation and reduce itchiness caused by environmental stressors.

Do I Need to Refrigerate My Skincare? What to Chill & What to Skip!
When it comes to skincare, proper storage is key to keeping your products fresh and effective. Lately, mini skincare fridges have been all over social media, and many people wonder: Do I actually need to refrigerate my skincare? The short answer? Some products benefit from refrigeration, while others should be kept at room temperature. Letβs break it all downβwhen to chill, when to skip, and how to get the most out of your Simple Body Products!
Why Refrigerate Skincare?
Refrigerating certain skincare products can:
βοΈΒ Extend shelf life β Cooler temperatures slow down bacterial growth and oxidation.
βοΈΒ Soothe the skin β Cold products can reduce puffiness, redness, and irritation.
βοΈΒ Improve application β Some formulas feel extra refreshing when chilled. But before you toss everything in the fridge, not all skincare products belong there. Letβs talk about what should (and shouldnβt) be refrigerated.
What Skincare Products Can Be Refrigerated?
Some skincare products benefit from cooler temperatures, especially water-based or preservative-containing formulas.
1. Water-Based Products with Preservatives
Products like toners, face mists, and serums that contain water and preservatives can be safely stored in the fridge. This can help extend their shelf life and provide a cooling effect when applied.
Β Great fridge-friendly products include:
βοΈΒ Rosewater Toner & Hydrating Mists β Feels refreshing and helps reduce puffiness.
βοΈΒ Gel-Based Serums & Aloe Vera Gel β Cools and calms irritated skin. π‘ Pro Tip: Storing toners and mists in the fridge makes them even more refreshing on a hot day!
2. Deodorant (If Itβs Hot Outside!)
If youβve ever had your natural deodorant melt in the summer, youβre not alone! Many clean deodorants (like ours) contain coconut oil, which can soften or even liquefy in warm temperatures.
Storing deodorant in the fridge helps prevent melting, but be sure to:
Β βοΈ Let it warm slightly before twisting up the tube to avoid breakage.
βοΈ Store in a cool, dark place once itβs at room temperature.
3. Skincare Tools (Gua Sha, Jade Roller, Eye Masks)
Skincare tools donβt require refrigeration, but chilling them enhances their benefits by helping reduce puffiness and inflammation.
What to keep cold:
βοΈΒ Jade Rollers & Gua Sha Tools β The cold temperature helps tighten skin and improve circulation.
βοΈΒ Under-Eye Masks β Chilled eye masks are extra soothing for puffy, tired eyes. π‘ Pro Tip: If you donβt have a mini fridge, pop your roller or gua sha tool in the freezer for a few minutes before use!
What Skincare Products Should NOT Be Refrigerated?
While refrigeration helps some skincare last longer, other products can become too thick, separate, or lose their effectiveness when stored in cold temperatures.
1. Beauty Balm & Oil-Based Products
DO NOT refrigerate our Beauty Balm! Oil-based products donβt contain water, so they donβt require refrigeration. In fact, cold temperatures can cause balms, oils, and butters to harden, making them difficult to apply.
π«Β What NOT to refrigerate:
Beauty Balm β May become too firm and difficult to spread.
Cleansing Oil & Face Oils β Can solidify, making application harder.
Serums with Oils β Some oils can become cloudy or grainy in cold temps.
π‘ Pro Tip: Store balms and oils at room temperature in a cool, dry place to maintain their texture.
2. Clay Masks & Powdered Skincare
Dry skincare products, like powdered clay masks, donβt need refrigeration since they donβt contain water. Exposure to moisture (like condensation in a fridge) could actually ruin them!
π«Β Keep these at room temp:
Clay Masks β Store in a dry area to prevent clumping.
π‘ Pro Tip: Store clay masks in an airtight container away from steam and humidity to keep them fresh.
Are Mini Skincare Fridges Worth It?
Mini skincare fridges are super trendy right now, but do you really need one? β
Theyβre great for:
Keeping water-based skincare cool and fresh.
Storing jade rollers, gua sha tools, and eye creams.
π« Theyβre not great for:
Oil-based products (which can solidify).
Thick creams or balms that might get too firm.
Powdered skincare that can be affected by moisture.
π‘ Final Verdict: Mini fridges are a great luxury if you love a cooling effect in your routine, but they arenβt necessary for every product or everyone!
Final Thoughts: Should You Refrigerate Your Skincare?
β
Refrigerate:
βοΈ Water-based toners, mists & gel serums
βοΈ Eye creams & masks for depuffing
βοΈ Jade rollers & gua sha tools
βοΈ Deodorant (if itβs hot outside!)
π«Β Skip the fridge for:
β Oil-based balms, serums & face oils
β Clay masks & powdered skincare
β Thick creams that might get too hard The key is knowing which products actually benefit from being chilled and which ones are better off at room temperature.

Transparency isnβt just a trendβitβs essential for truly clean beauty.

The 5 Love Languages
The 5 Love Languages: How to Show Love in a Way That Truly Matters
Love is one of the most beautiful things we experience as humans, but have you ever felt like you and your partner, friend, or family member were speaking different languages when it came to expressing love? Thatβs where the 5 Love Languages come in! Dr. Gary Chapman introduced this concept in his book, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, and it has completely transformed the way people understand relationships. Whether youβre in a romantic relationship, have close friendships, or want to deepen your connection with family, learning about love language types can be a game-changer. So, letβs dive into the love languages list, what they mean, and how you can use them to strengthen your relationships!
What Are the 5 Love Languages?
At the core of it, love languages are the different ways we give and receive love. You might express love one way, but your partner or friend might need love in a completely different way to truly feel it.
Hereβs a quick breakdown of each:
1οΈβ£ Words of Affirmation β Using words to uplift and encourage.
Β 2οΈβ£ Acts of Service β Showing love through helpful actions.
3οΈβ£Β Receiving Gifts β Thoughtful presents that show you care.
4οΈβ£Β Quality Time β Giving someone your undivided attention.
5οΈβ£Β Physical Touch β Expressing love through physical closeness. Letβs break these down a little more!
1. Words of Affirmation: Love Through Encouragement
If Words of Affirmation is your love language, you thrive on kind words, compliments, and encouragement. A simple βI love youβ or βI appreciate youβ can mean the world to you.
How to Express Love in This Language:
β Leave a heartfelt sticky note on the mirror.
β Send aΒ random text telling them how much you appreciate them.
β Give genuineΒ complimentsβtell them they look amazing, how proud you are of them, or how grateful you are for their kindness.
2. Acts of Service: Love is in the Little Things
Ever heard the phrase, βActions speak louder than words?β Thatβs exactly what Acts of Service is all about! People with this love language feel most loved when their partner does things to make their life easierβwhether itβs making breakfast, running an errand, or helping with a project.
How to Show Love in This Language:
β Cook their favorite meal after a long day.
βΒ Take care of a task theyβve been dreading (laundry, dishes, errands).
β Surprise them withΒ coffee or a snack when theyβre busy or stressed. Remember: Itβs not about grand gesturesβitβs about thoughtful little things that show, βI see you, and I want to help.β
3. Receiving Gifts: Thoughtful Tokens of Love
People with this love language arenβt materialisticβthey just love thoughtful gifts that show you were thinking about them. A well-chosen gift tells them, βI saw this and thought of you,β which makes them feel special.
How to Show Love in This Language:
β Surprise them with their favorite snack or coffee.
β Gift them somethingΒ meaningfulβa book theyβd love, a handmade card, or a small trinket that reminds them of a special memory.
β If they collect something (mugs, candles, plants), surprise them with aΒ new addition to their collection! The best gifts donβt have to be expensive! A simple but thoughtful gift can make someone feel incredibly loved.
4. Quality Time: Love is About Presence
If Quality Time is your love language, thereβs nothing better than undivided attention. Itβs not just about being in the same roomβitβs about intentional time together, free of distractions.
How to Show Love in This Language:
β Put your phone away and be fully present.
β Plan aΒ date night, game night, or movie night together.
β Take aΒ walk or road trip where you can talk and connect. Quality Time Love Language Tip: Itβs not about what you do, but how you do it. If youβre watching a movie but scrolling on your phone the whole time, it doesnβt count!
5. Physical Touch: Love You Can Feel
For some people, nothing says βI love youβ more than a warm hug, a kiss, or simply holding hands. Physical touch is a powerful way to feel close and connected.
How to Show Love in This Language:
β Give longer hugs and hold hands often.
β Snuggle on the couch orΒ give a massage after a long day.
β Use touch in everyday interactionsβa pat on the back, a shoulder squeeze, or a playful nudge. Physical touch is a silent way of saying, "I'm here for you."
How to Say βI Love Youβ in Sign Language
Want to learn how to say "I love you" in sign language? It's easy! The "I love you" sign in American Sign Language (ASL) is made by extending your thumb, index finger, and pinky while keeping your middle and ring fingers down. π€ Fun Idea: If someone you love has "Words of Affirmation" as their love language, surprise them by signing "I love you" in sign language instead of just saying it!
Using Love Languages to Strengthen Every Relationship
Knowing your love language types isnβt just helpful for romantic relationshipsβitβs also amazing for friendships, family, and even coworkers!
β If yourΒ friend has Quality Time as their love language, plan a coffee date or a call.
Β β If your mom loves Acts of Service, help her with something on her to-do list.
β If yourΒ partner loves Physical Touch, make sure to give them extra hugs. Love isnβt one-size-fits-all, and thatβs what makes it beautiful. When you start speaking someoneβs love language, youβre showing them love in a way they truly understand. π

The Power of Conscious Consumerism: Building a Sustainable Future
Conscious Consumerism: Shaping a Sustainable Future
Conscious consumerism has emerged as a powerful movement that encourages individuals to make thoughtful choices when purchasing goods and services. By considering the social, economic, and environmental impact of our consumption habits, we can contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world. This blog post explores the significance of conscious consumerism, particularly in relation to local and small businesses. We will delve into the benefits of supporting local establishments, such as fostering community, creating jobs, and strengthening the economy. Additionally, we will highlight how conscious consumerism promotes sustainability by reducing carbon emissions associated with long-distance transportation. Together, through mindful purchasing decisions, we can shape our local economies and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
Understanding Conscious Consumerism
To embark on our exploration of conscious consumerism, it is crucial to define the concept. Conscious consumerism involves adopting a thoughtful approach to buying goods and services, taking into account their broader impact on society, the economy, and the environment. Instead of mindlessly consuming, conscious consumers consider their values and make informed choices that align with their principles. This mindset empowers individuals to be more mindful of their purchasing decisions and encourages businesses to adopt sustainable practices.
The Power of Supporting Local and Small Businesses
One of the key aspects of conscious consumerism is the emphasis on supporting local and small businesses. Shopping at local establishments has numerous advantages that go beyond obtaining quality products. By patronizing these businesses, we foster a sense of community and strengthen social connections. Local businesses often become the heart of neighborhoods, contributing to the vibrancy and identity of an area.
Moreover, supporting local businesses has a direct economic impact. When we choose to spend our money locally, we contribute to job creation and economic growth in our communities. Small businesses are often major employers, providing opportunities for local residents and contributing to the overall well-being of the region.
Furthermore, shopping locally reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transportation. By purchasing goods from nearby producers, we decrease the energy and emissions associated with shipping products across long distances. This reduction in carbon emissions contributes to environmental sustainability and mitigates the effects of climate change.
Empowering Individuals Through Conscious Consumerism
Conscious consumerism empowers individuals to use their purchasing power to drive change. By aligning our spending with our values, we send a strong message to businesses and industries. When businesses see that consumers prioritize sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical practices, they are more likely to adopt these principles themselves. As conscious consumers, we have the power to influence the market and encourage positive change in various sectors.
Building a Sustainable Future
The collective impact of conscious consumerism is significant. By participating in this movement, we contribute to the creation of a more sustainable future. Imagine a world where businesses prioritize ethical sourcing, environmentally friendly production, and fair labor practices. Through conscious consumerism, we can transform this vision into a reality.
Conscious consumerism is not just a passing trend but a vital movement that can shape our future. By embracing this mindset, supporting local and small businesses, and making mindful purchasing decisions, we become catalysts for change. The power to create a more sustainable and equitable world lies within each of us. Let us join forces and work towards a future where conscious consumerism is the norm, and our choices have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the environment. The Rise of Clean Beauty
As someone who has always been passionate about health and wellness, I am thrilled to see the rise of clean beauty. This movement towards natural and non-toxic beauty products has not only made the beauty industry more sustainable, but it has also made it more accessible and safe for everyone.
Before the rise of clean beauty, the beauty industry was dominated by chemical-laden products that often contained harmful ingredients. These ingredients, such as parabens and sulfates, were known to cause irritation and even contribute to chronic health conditions. As a result, many people, including myself, were hesitant to use beauty products because of the potential risks.
Overall, the rise of clean beauty is a positive development for the beauty industry and for consumers. It has made the industry more sustainable, accessible, and safe, and it has provided better health and performance benefits for those who choose to use clean beauty products. I am excited to see where this movement takes us in the future, and I am confident that it will continue to grow and improve.
But now, with the rise of clean beauty, there are more options available for people who want to take care of their skin and hair without exposing themselves to potentially harmful ingredients. These clean beauty products are made with natural and organic ingredients that are gentle on the skin and hair, and they often have the added benefit of being cruelty-free and eco-friendly.
Not only do clean beauty products offer better health benefits, but they also provide better performance. I have personally noticed a significant improvement in my skin and hair since switching to clean beauty products. My skin is smoother and more radiant, and my hair is stronger and healthier. And because these products are made with natural ingredients, they often have a more pleasant scent and texture than their chemical-laden counterparts.
One of the best things about the rise of clean beauty is that it has made it more affordable and accessible for everyone. In the past, natural and organic beauty products were often expensive and hard to find, but now they are widely available at affordable prices. This means that people of all budgets can enjoy the benefits of clean beauty without breaking the bank.
Here are the top 7 reasons YOU should consider making the switch to clean beauty:
Clean beauty products are made with natural, non-toxic ingredients that are safer for your health and the environment.
Many synthetic ingredients used in traditional beauty products have been linked to negative health effects, such as endocrine disruption and cancer.
Natural ingredients are often gentler on the skin and less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions.
Clean beauty products often have fewer ingredients, which can be beneficial for those with sensitive skin or allergies.
Using clean beauty products can reduce your exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and help you to feel good about the products you are using on your body.
The production of natural ingredients is often more sustainable and environmentally friendly compared to synthetic ingredients.
Clean beauty products can be just as effective as traditional products, and there are many high-quality options available.
We hope you'll give Simple Body a try!

Holiday Makeup Made Simple: Jewelsβ Tips for Effortless, Natural Glam
Holiday parties are planned. Neighborhood get-togethers are on the calendar. The holidays are a chance for you to sparkle and shine at every event. Adding a little makeup can help you add a touch of glam to your holiday outfit. Here are a few of my personal suggestions!
I always start by cleansing, toning, applying my daily face cream and then topping with the Beauty Balm. This gives me a smooth, moisturized surface to start from. The makeup glides on much easier!
Personally, I apply concealer with a brushβit blends into my skin better and gives me more control of where it goes. I typically apply it under my eyes, around my nose area, and along my jawline.
Shop Concealers
Apply a Pressed Powder
Our Pure Anada foundation is made with titanium dioxide and zinc, so it also adds a layer of UV protection. I use a large brush and apply it lightly all over my face and neck. I typically use the βTransparentβ because it doesnβt add color, just a very light matte finish.
Add a Bronzer for a Sun-Kissed Look
I donβt wear bronzer daily, so using it on special occasions feels extra niceβit gives you that sun-kissed look with just a hint of shimmer. Apply bronzer just below your cheekbones to contour your face, and lightly around the perimeter to brighten your complexion. I recommend using a gentle patting motion rather than brushing.
Shop Pressed Powder
Personalize Your Eye Shadow Look
Opt for a smokey eye, a natural look, or glam it up with brighter colors. I start by using a creamy ivory in the inner corner of my eye and along my brow bone. Since my eyes are somewhat hooded, I prefer to apply the darker shadow a bit higherβit gives my eyes a natural lift. I also like a pop of color on the outside of my lower lids to add interest.
Shop Eye Shadow
Pencil or Liquid Eye Liner?
Choose the one that works best for your look. Liquid creates a bold, dramatic line, while pencil offers a softer, more blendable finish. To make your eyes appear larger, avoid lining the entire lidβstart near the middle of your eye and extend outward about three-quarters of the way.
Shop Eye Liner
Define and Fill In Your Brows
I love the Pure Anada brow pencil because of the built-in brush on the other end. After filling in my brows, I use the brush to blend and soften the lookβit keeps them looking natural. A sweep of mascara opens the eyes and gives that finished touch. For fun, try a pop of color like blue, or keep it classic with black or brown.
Shop Eyebrow Pencil
Last, But Not LeastβLips!
There are endless lip optionsβglossy, matte, or natural. Because I usually wear a more neutral face, I love making my lips stand out. I line them with a fine pencil, then fill in with a bold color. The liner helps keep the lipstick perfectly in place. I also love lip glossβitβs easy to apply, lasts a long time, and a quick swipe at a party keeps everything fresh.

I hope these tips help you look and feel your best this holiday season. Go celebrate!

Turn Your Bathroom into a Home Spa
If you haven't noticed, the price of just about everything has increased over the last year. Whether you are cutting back on extra expenditures or working extra hours to make ends meet, the need for self-care is more important than ever. One of the ways to carve out a little time for yourself during the week is by turning your bathroom into a Home Spa. Here are a few inexpensive ways to do just that.
Plan Ahead
There are a few things that you can do ahead of time to ensure an authentic spa experience at home. First, choose a set time and make a reservation with yourself, just like you would if you were going to a Spa. If you share a home with other people, let them know a day in advance that you and the bathroom will not be available AT ALL during your designated Spa time. It may feel weird to reserve space for yourself, but only because you are at home. And remember, you are worth it!
Typically, a Spa staff works tirelessly ahead of your arrival to ensure you have an incredible experience. However, with a Home Spa, you ARE the staff! Nothing kills the Spa vibe like a dirty, cluttered bathroom. The day before your reservation, remove all unnecessary items, deep clean the bathtub, and make sure you have all the supplies you need for the Spa experience.
Set the Mood
Next, set your intentions for your Spa experience. Do you need to relax and unwind, or do you need to feel energized and motivated? Do you need to soften and moisturize dry skin, relax overworked muscles, detoxify, purify, and boost immune function? Setting your intentions will help you determine which essential oils and herbs to use, your music choice, and how to prepare your bath. I'll give you a few suggestions for this after we finish setting the mood.
Change into a 100% organic cotton, eco-friendly robe. Cotton robes are breathable, absorbent, and better for the environment allowing for a guilt-free Spa experience. Make a cup of your favorite herbal tea or smoothie, silence notifications on your phone, play your favorite playlist on low, and you are ready for the tub!
Nothing says Spa like the low flickering light of a few candles. A word of warning, though, is that candles can quickly pollute a small space when made with toxic ingredients. Choose candles that are free from paraffin wax, pigment, lead-core wicks, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. After all, the purpose of a Home Spa is to carve out a little time in your week to IMPROVE your health, not make it worse! Fortunately, so many great 100% soy, lead-free candles are available today. Tip: To save money, buy unscented tealight candles and add a drop of essential oil to the melted wax.
Tub Time
Since you are essentially the 'Spa staff,' make your life easier by placing herbs in a cotton, reuseable bag before adding them to the water (kind of like a teabag), making cleanup a breeze. After you add all the ingredients, gently stir the water with your arm before you enter. Here are some suggestions for a luxurious bathing experience.
Tonic Bath
To help stimulate the body and eliminate toxins. The bath temperature suggestion is 97 degrees. Tonic bathes are typically done in the morning on an empty stomach. Ingredient options include Epsom salt (1/4 cup), orange and lemon peels (1/4 cup each), ginger root (1 tablespoon size chunk), fresh pine needles, Rosemary, Parsley, or Sage leaf (1-2 Tablespoons), or any combination of these. Add ΒΌ cup of Simple Body's Immune Boosting or Purify + Renew Massage oil for silky soft skin.
Relax & Stress Relief
To prepare the body for sleep. The bath temperature suggestion is 100 degrees. Relax & Stress Relief bathes are typically done on an empty stomach in the evening. Ingredient options include Epsom salt (1/4 cup), Lavender seeds, Chamomile flowers, Rose Petals (1-2 Tablespoons), old-fashioned oats (1/4 cup), or any combination of these. Add ΒΌ cup of Simple Body's Stress Relief or Hydrating Rose Massage oil for silky soft skin.
Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the aroma of healing herbs and oils. Give yourself 15-20 minutes to receive the full benefits of a good soak. Take some time to reflect and be grateful for the things you love about your life.
When it is time to exit the tub, take it slowly, especially if you added massage oil to the water, as your tub will be slippery. Wrap yourself in your robe and apply nourishing body butter to your skin to lock in moisture. Always drink a little extra water after a hot bath to replace any lost fluids and to help flush toxins from the body. I hope you enjoyed our suggestions for a home spa experience. Schedule yours today!

What Does Aluminum-Free Deodorant Really Mean? A Formulator Explains
Walk through the personal care aisle of almost any grocery store and one phrase seems to appear on nearly every deodorant label: aluminum-free. Sometimes it is printed larger than the product name itself, as though those two words tell you everything you need to know about what is inside the package.
For many women, the claim creates more questions than answers. Does aluminum-free deodorant actually work? Will it keep you dry? Is aluminum something you should avoid? And if a product is aluminum-free, does that automatically mean it is natural, gentle, or better for sensitive skin?
After 16 plus years of formulating skincare and body care, I can tell you that the answer is more nuanced than the marketing on the front of the package suggests. Aluminum-free describes one specific characteristic of a deodorant, but it says very little about the rest of the formula, how it will feel on your skin, or whether it will meet your expectations throughout the day.
To understand what aluminum-free deodorant really means, we first need to talk about something most of us have spent years trying not to think about: sweat. Once you understand why your body produces it, where underarm odor actually comes from, and how deodorant differs from antiperspirant, the entire aisle becomes much easier to navigate.
Why We Have Been Taught to Treat Sweat Like a Problem
For decades, personal care advertising has presented dry underarms as the ideal. Sweat became associated with embarrassment, poor hygiene, and a lack of control, even though perspiration is one of the bodyβs most useful regulatory systems. When your internal temperature begins to rise, sweat glands release moisture onto the surface of your skin. As that moisture evaporates, it carries heat away and helps cool you down.
This happens when you exercise, work outside on a warm day, sit through a stressful meeting, experience a hormonal shift, or even eat something spicy. Your body is constantly adjusting to its environment, and sweating is one of the tools it uses to maintain a safe temperature.
That does not mean everyone sweats the same amount. Genetics, climate, activity level, hormones, medications, stress, and certain health conditions can all influence perspiration. A woman navigating hot flashes may notice very different patterns than she did ten years earlier. Someone hiking in Coloradoβs dry summer heat may have a completely different experience from someone spending the day in a humid coastal climate.
The important thing to understand is that sweating is not evidence that your body is failing. Most of the time, it is evidence that your body is responding exactly as it was designed to respond.
The Surprising Truth About Sweat and Body Odor
Here is the part many people find surprising: freshly produced sweat has very little odor of its own. The smell we associate with underarm perspiration develops when naturally occurring microorganisms on the skin begin breaking down substances found in that moisture.
Your body has different types of sweat glands. Eccrine glands are distributed across much of the body and produce the watery perspiration primarily responsible for cooling you. Apocrine glands are concentrated in areas such as the underarms and become active around puberty. Their secretions contain more proteins and lipids, which provide material for skin bacteria to break down.
As those bacteria metabolize components of the sweat, they create small aromatic compounds that we recognize as body odor. This helps explain why two people can perspire similar amounts yet smell very different. The underarm microbiome, clothing, diet, stress, cleansing habits, and product use can all influence the way odor develops.
That distinction is important because it changes the job we expect a deodorant to perform. If perspiration itself is not the primary source of odor, then stopping sweat is not the only way to stay fresh. A deodorant can instead focus on managing the environment where odor develops while allowing the bodyβs cooling process to continue.
Deodorant and Antiperspirant Are Not the Same Product
Many of us grew up using the words deodorant and antiperspirant interchangeably, but they are designed to do different things. An antiperspirant reduces the amount of perspiration that reaches the skin. A deodorant is intended to manage or mask odor without necessarily reducing sweat.
Some conventional products combine both functions. They contain an antiperspirant active to reduce wetness along with ingredients that help control odor or add scent. An aluminum-free deodorant, by contrast, does not use an aluminum-based active to restrict perspiration. Its performance depends on the rest of the formula.
Neither category should be judged by a single dramatic claim. A person who experiences excessive perspiration may prefer the wetness reduction offered by an antiperspirant. Someone else may be comfortable sweating naturally but want help staying fresh. The right choice depends on what you expect the product to do, how your skin responds, and what fits your daily life.
This is one of the first questions I think people should ask themselves before buying: Am I trying to reduce moisture, control odor, or both? Once you answer that honestly, it becomes much easier to choose the right category rather than expecting a deodorant to perform like an antiperspirant.
What Aluminum Does in an Antiperspirant
Aluminum salts are the active ingredients that give antiperspirants their sweat-reducing function. When an antiperspirant is applied to the underarm, those salts interact with moisture and temporarily form shallow plugs within the openings of the sweat ducts. This reduces the amount of perspiration that reaches the skinβs surface.
With less moisture present, the underarm may feel drier and there may be less material available for odor-producing bacteria. This is why many people experience both reduced wetness and reduced odor when they use a combination antiperspirant and deodorant.
It is important to discuss this without fear-based language. The purpose of aluminum in an antiperspirant is not mysterious: it is there to reduce perspiration. Whether someone chooses to use an antiperspirant is a personal decision based on comfort, performance, skin sensitivity, and individual preferences.
I do not think people benefit when skincare education turns every ingredient into a villain. I would rather explain what an ingredient does, what it does not do, and how that information can help you decide whether it belongs in your routine.
What Does Aluminum-Free Deodorant Actually Mean?
An aluminum-free deodorant does not contain aluminum salts used as antiperspirant actives. In practical terms, it is designed to help you manage odor while allowing your body to perspire naturally.
That is the full meaning of the claim. Aluminum-free does not automatically mean organic, botanical, fragrance-free, baking soda-free, hypoallergenic, or appropriate for sensitive skin. It does not tell you whether the formula contains synthetic fragrance, drying alcohols, strong essential oils, or other ingredients that may affect comfort.
It also does not guarantee that the product will work well. Two deodorants can both be aluminum-free and still perform very differently because their odor-control systems, textures, scent levels, and skin-supporting ingredients may have almost nothing in common.
This is why I consider aluminum-free a useful piece of information rather than a complete measure of quality. It tells you what the product is not doing. To understand what it is doing, you have to read the rest of the ingredient list.
Will You Sweat More After Switching to Aluminum-Free Deodorant?
If you have used an antiperspirant for years, switching to aluminum-free deodorant can make it seem as though you are suddenly perspiring much more. In many cases, your body has not started producing an unusual amount of sweat. You are simply noticing the moisture that an antiperspirant previously helped reduce.
This can feel especially obvious during the first warm week of summer, during exercise, or when wearing close-fitting synthetic fabrics. The difference may be less noticeable on a cool, low-activity day. Your environment and routine matter just as much as the product.
I am cautious with the idea that everyone goes through a dramatic βdetoxβ when switching deodorants. That word is used often in natural personal care, but it can make a normal adjustment sound more mysterious than it is. Your body may need time to adapt to a different feel and level of wetness, but that does not necessarily mean it is purging toxins through your underarms.
A more realistic expectation is that you may become newly aware of your natural perspiration. It can take a little experimentation to learn how much product to use, whether reapplication is helpful, and which clothing fabrics keep you most comfortable.
How Aluminum-Free Deodorant Controls Odor Without Blocking Sweat
Because aluminum-free deodorant does not rely on reducing perspiration, the rest of the formula has to do more thoughtful work. Different deodorants take different approaches, and many combine several strategies within one product.
Some ingredients help absorb a portion of the surface moisture, which can make the underarm feel more comfortable even though the sweat glands are still functioning normally. Others help neutralize odor-producing compounds or influence the environment in which odor-causing bacteria thrive. Oils, waxes, and butters may provide glide and help protect delicate underarm skin, while essential oils or other aromatic ingredients contribute scent.
The effectiveness of a natural deodorant rarely comes down to one ingredient. It depends on the balance of odor control, moisture management, skin comfort, stability, and texture. A formula that is extremely effective at neutralizing odor may still be unpleasant to use if it drags across the skin, stains clothing, or causes irritation after shaving.
This is one of the reasons I believe the best personal care products are the ones you almost stop noticing. A good deodorant should become part of your morning without turning your underarms into a daily project. It should apply smoothly, feel comfortable, and help you move through your day with confidence.
Why Baking Soda Works for Some People and Irritates Others
Baking soda is one of the most common ingredients used in natural deodorant because its alkaline nature can help neutralize acidic odor compounds. For many people, it works extremely well and causes no difficulty at all.
For others, especially those with reactive skin, freshly shaved underarms, or an already compromised barrier, baking soda can contribute to redness, itching, tenderness, or a rash-like reaction. Underarm skin is thin, frequently exposed to friction, and often subjected to shaving, heat, and moisture, so even an ingredient that performs well can be uncomfortable for the wrong person.
This does not make baking soda a universally bad ingredient. It means skin tolerance varies. One woman may use a baking soda deodorant for years without a problem, while another may feel irritation within a few days.
That is why having both traditional and baking soda-free options matters. The goal should not be convincing every customer that one formula is perfect for everyone. The goal is helping her recognize what her own skin is telling her and choose accordingly.
Why Synthetic Fragrance Can Matter in an Underarm Product
The underarm is an area where scent and skin sensitivity often collide. Many conventional deodorants rely on strong fragrance blends to cover odor, but adding more scent is not the same as addressing how odor develops.
Synthetic fragrance does not bother every person, but it can be a source of irritation for some, particularly when applied to freshly shaved or already sensitive skin. It can also make it harder to understand whether the deodorant itself is effectively controlling odor or simply masking it temporarily.
At Simple Body, we formulate without synthetic fragrance. When scent is included, it comes from carefully selected aromatic ingredients rather than a generic fragrance blend. Even then, I believe restraint matters. Underarm products are used daily, often immediately after shaving, so more scent is not automatically better.
For people who know their skin is easily irritated, an unscented or lower-scent formula may be a more comfortable place to begin. The best deodorant scent is the one that does not compete with your perfume, your clothing, or your skin.
What I Have Learned After 16 Years of Formulating Deodorant
Simple Body began with deodorant, so this category has taught me some of my most important lessons as a formulator. One of them is that people often judge natural deodorant by expectations created by antiperspirant. They apply an aluminum-free product, notice normal perspiration, and assume the deodorant has failed even when it is successfully controlling odor.
That is a little like judging a facial cleanser because it does not behave like a moisturizer. The two products have different jobs. An aluminum-free deodorant is not designed to make your underarms completely dry. It is designed to help you stay fresh while your body continues its normal cooling process.
I have also learned that underarm comfort matters just as much as odor control. A deodorant is used too frequently and on too delicate an area for irritation to be treated as an acceptable trade-off. The base, texture, scent level, and strength of the odor-control ingredients all have to be considered together.
Whenever I formulate, I come back to the same question: how can we support the skin instead of constantly trying to overpower it? With deodorant, that means respecting perspiration as a normal process while creating a formula that helps manage what happens on the surface of the skin.
How to Choose the Right Aluminum-Free Deodorant
Begin by deciding what you expect from the product. If keeping your underarms completely dry is your highest priority, a deodorant without an antiperspirant active may not give you the experience you want. If your goal is primarily odor control and you are comfortable with normal perspiration, an aluminum-free deodorant may be a good fit.
Then consider your skin. If you frequently develop redness or itching, look beyond the aluminum-free claim and pay attention to baking soda, scent, essential oils, and other potentially irritating ingredients. A baking soda-free or lower-scent option may be more comfortable, especially if you shave regularly.
Your lifestyle matters too. Someone working in an air-conditioned office has different needs from someone teaching hot yoga, hiking in August, navigating menopause-related sweating, or working a physically demanding job. Reapplication is not a failure. Sometimes it is simply a realistic part of using a product that manages odor without trying to stop perspiration altogether.
Finally, give yourself permission to experiment. Natural deodorant is personal. The formula your friend loves may not be the one your skin prefers, and a product that works beautifully in January may need a little extra support in July.
The Better Question Is Not Simply βIs It Aluminum-Free?β
Aluminum-free deodorant has become one of the most recognizable claims in personal care, but those two words cannot tell you whether a formula is clean, gentle, thoughtfully made, or effective for your body. They simply tell you that the product does not use aluminum salts to reduce perspiration.
A more useful question is: What is this formula designed to do, and is that what I actually need? Look at the odor-control ingredients, consider the level of scent, think about your skinβs sensitivity, and decide how you feel about natural perspiration. Those details will tell you much more than the largest claim on the label.
Healthy skin is rarely about fighting the body into submission. It is about understanding what the body is doing, choosing ingredients thoughtfully, and finding products that fit your real life. That has been my approach since I formulated our first deodorant, and it continues to guide every product we make.

Why Alcohol in Skincare Isnβt Always a Red Flag (But Can Be)
Not all alcohol in skincare is bad β but some can do more harm than good. The trick is knowing which types to look for and which to avoid. While certain alcohols can dry and irritate, others (like fatty alcohols) actually help your skin stay soft, hydrated, and smooth. In this post, we break down the difference between βgoodβ and βbadβ alcohols, how to read your ingredient labels, and what to know before you toss that bottle in the trash.
Why We Love Cold-Pressed Oils (and What They Really Do for Your Skin)
For years, skincare marketing told us oils were the enemyβthat they clog pores, cause breakouts, and make skin greasy. But when you look at the science, plant oils (especially cold-pressed ones) tell a very different story. Theyβre some of the most nutrient-dense, skin-supportive ingredients you can useβand when you understand why, itβs hard not to fall in love with them.
What βCold-Pressedβ Really Means
Cold pressing is a gentle extraction method that avoids high heat or chemical solvents. Instead of stripping away nutrients, it preserves them. This means all the delicate compoundsβcarotenoids, polyphenols, phytosterols (which are realllllly good for your skin)βstay intact.
Think of it like fresh-squeezed juice versus juice from concentrate. Both are βjuice,β but one is vibrant, nutrient-rich, and alive in a way the other just isnβt.
Research shows cold-pressed oils contain higher levels of antioxidants and unsaponifiable compounds (like sterols and tocopherols) compared to refined oils, which can lose much of their protective activity during processing .
The Fatty Acids Your Skin Is Craving
At their core, oils are made of triglycerides (fatty acids + glycerol). When you apply them, they form a light, breathable film that reduces water loss. But hereβs the deeper layer: enzymes in your skin can break some of those triglycerides down into free fatty acids that play direct roles in barrier repair and cell signaling.
Two fatty acids are especially important:
Linoleic acid (omega-6): Strengthens the barrier, helps prevent water loss, and supports healthy cell turnover. Studies show linoleic-rich oils improve barrier repair and calm inflammation .
Oleic acid (omega-9): Makes oils feel rich and nourishing but, when used in high amounts, may disrupt barrier lipids for some skin types. Thatβs why balance matters.
The best cold-pressed oils give you the right mixβsupportive but not overwhelming.
Beyond Fat: The Antioxidant Advantage
What makes cold-pressed oils truly special isnβt just the fatsβitβs the extras that come along for the ride.
Vitamin E (tocopherols, tocotrienols): A powerful antioxidant that protects skin lipids from free-radical damage.
Polyphenols: Plant compounds with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity.
Phytosterols: Plant sterols that calm irritation and support repair.
Carotenoids: Pigments like beta-carotene that have antioxidant and mild UV-protective effects.
One study tested cold-pressed fruit seed oils and found they had strong free-radical scavenging activity, thanks to these antioxidants. Another even suggested some oils may enhance the skinβs natural photoprotection in the near-infrared spectrum .
A Few of Our Favorite Oils
Rosehip Seed Oil: High in linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids, plus carotenoids. Great for brightening and supporting uneven tone .
Jojoba Oil: Technically a wax ester, almost identical to skinβs natural sebumβmaking it balancing and non-comedogenic.
Sea Buckthorn Oil: Vibrant orange from its carotenoids, itβs antioxidant-rich and deeply nourishing.
Pomegranate Seed Oil: Rich in punicic acid (a rare conjugated fatty acid) thatβs been shown in studies to reduce inflammation, protect against collagen- and elastin-degrading enzymes, and encourage keratinocyte renewal. It also contains antioxidants like tocopherols and phytosterols, which help defend against oxidative stress and support barrier health. Researchers have even observed modest epidermal thickening and improved enzyme balance in skin treated with pomegranate seed oil, making it a powerful addition for repair and resilience.
Each has its own personality, but what they share is purity: no harsh solvents, no chemical strippingβjust plants in their most generous form.
How to Use Cold-Pressed Oils
Apply a few drops to damp skin after cleansing for hydration and barrier support.
Choose oils suited to your skin typeβlinoleic-rich oils (rosehip, grapeseed) for oily or breakout-prone skin; more balanced oils (argan, jojoba) for drier types.
Always store oils in dark, airtight bottles and away from heat to protect their delicate compounds.
The Bottom Line
Cold-pressed oils arenβt just βnaturalβ alternatives to moisturizers. Theyβre scientifically backed, bioactive ingredients that deliver fatty acids, antioxidants, and protective compounds directly to your skin. Used thoughtfully, they support hydration, calm inflammation, and help defend against environmental stress.
No wonder we love them so much.

Hyaluronic Acid: Why Every Skin Type (Yes, Every One) Needs It
If youβve spent any time scrolling through skincare content, youβve probably seen hyaluronic acid pop up more times than you can count. Itβs everywhere β in serums, creams, even hair products. But what actually makes it so special? And how does it really work inside your skin?
Hereβs the thing: not all hyaluronic acid is created equal. The kind youβll find in Simple Bodyβs Barrier Defense Serum and Wrinkle Defense Serum is carefully chosen for its molecular weight, purity, and ECOCERT/COSMOS-approved sourcing β all of which matter more than you might think.
Letβs break it down.
What Exactly Is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is something your body already makes naturally. Itβs a sugar molecule (technically a polysaccharide) found in your skin, eyes, joints, and connective tissue β and itβs what gives youthful skin that bouncy, supple feel.
Hereβs the amazing part: HA can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Think of it like a sponge living in your skin, drawing in hydration and keeping it there. But as we age, our natural supply declines, which means less moisture, less elasticity, and yes β more visible lines.
Thatβs where topical HA steps in.
Not All Hyaluronic Acid Is the Same
Most people donβt realize this, but there are different sizes (or βmolecular weightsβ) of hyaluronic acid β and they behave differently on your skin.
High Molecular Weight (HMW) HA
These are the big molecules. They sit closer to the surface and form a light, breathable film that prevents water loss and keeps your skin feeling hydrated and smooth.
Theyβre ideal for:
Immediate hydration
Soothing sensitive or reactive skin
Locking in moisture after cleansing or exfoliation
Youβll find this form in our Barrier Defense Serum, where it helps strengthen the skinβs outer layer and calm dryness or irritation.
Low Molecular Weight (LMW) HA
These smaller molecules can actually move deeper into the skin. They donβt just sit on top β they hydrate from within, improving firmness and helping soften the appearance of fine lines.
Theyβre ideal for:
Plumping and smoothing skin texture
Supporting collagen and elasticity
Long-term hydration
Youβll find this version in both our Wrinkle Defense SerumΒ and Barrier Defense Serum where it works alongside other age-supporting ingredients like ceramides.
The Real Magic: Combining Them
When you pair both high and low molecular weights, you get the best of both worlds β instant surface hydration and lasting moisture at a deeper level. This is the exact blend we use in our serums to mimic how youthful skin naturally holds water.
The Science (in Plain English)
Multiple studies have shown that hyaluronic acid significantly improves skin hydration, smoothness, and elasticity β no needles required.
A 2016 study published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology found that applying hyaluronic acid topically improved wrinkles and firmness after eight weeks of use.
Research in MDPI Polymers (2023) confirmed that low molecular weight HA can penetrate deeper into the epidermis, helping restore hydration from within.
Another paper in Frontiers in Aging (2024) highlighted HAβs ability to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) β the invisible evaporation of moisture through your skin barrier.
In other words, HA isnβt just a trend β itβs backed by decades of research and countless lab studies confirming its effectiveness and safety.
Why It Belongs in Every Skincare Routine
The beauty of hyaluronic acid is that it plays well with others. Whether your skin is dry, oily, acne-prone, or sensitive β it needs hydration.
Hereβs what HA does for each skin type:
Dry or Mature Skin: Boosts moisture retention and softens fine lines.
Oily or Acne-Prone Skin: Hydrates without heaviness or clogged pores.
Sensitive Skin: Soothes and replenishes without irritation.
Combination Skin: Balances hydration exactly where itβs needed most.
Compromised Skin Barriers (perimenopause, post-procedure, etc.): Restores comfort and resilience while reducing redness and tightness.
If your skin has ever felt tight after washing or dull by midday β your barrier is craving hydration. And HA is its favorite drink.
Behind the Scenes: How We Source & Formulate Ours
At Simple Body, our sodium hyaluronate (the salt form of HA used in skincare) is bio-fermented from non-GMO plant resources, not animal by-products.
Itβs ECOCERT and COSMOS-approved, meaning it meets strict global standards for sustainability and purity. We blend both high- and low-molecular-weight HA for a full-spectrum effect β surface comfort + deep hydration β and pair it with barrier-supporting ingredients that protect your skinβs natural microbiome.
Fun fact: the low-molecular form we use is so small it can travel deeper into your skin, helping restore that cushiony bounce that tends to fade with age.
Why Youβll Feel the Difference in Our Serums
Barrier Defense Serum β Think calm, balanced, resilient skin. This blend locks in hydration, reinforces your barrier, and helps skin stay supple through seasonal shifts, stress, or perimenopausal dryness.
Wrinkle Defense Serum β Designed to plump, firm, and smooth. The low molecular weight HA hydrates below the surface, helping diminish fine lines while supporting elasticity and cell renewal.
Both serums are gentle enough for all skin types and can be layered easily with your moisturizer or used under makeup.
The Bottom Line
Hyaluronic acid isnβt a fad ingredient β itβs a foundational one. It hydrates, heals, and helps your skin age with grace, not panic. Whether your goal is fewer wrinkles, smoother texture, or just more balanced skin, HA delivers results you can feel almost instantly.
Itβs simple science β and thatβs exactly how we like our skincare.

10 Skincare Mistakes You Might Be Making and How to Fix Them
Taking care of your skin is more than just slathering on the latest productsβitβs about forming habits that keep your skin at its best! Letβs break down 10 common skincare mistakes you might be making and how to turn things around for that clear, glowing complexion.
1. Reusing Towels on Your Face
The Whoops: Using the same towel over and over lets bacteria and oil hang around on your skin. The Fix: Grab a fresh towel each time! This simple switch can prevent breakouts and keep your skin looking fresh.
2. Over-Exfoliating
The Whoops: Overdoing exfoliation can strip your skinβs natural oils, leaving it red and irritated. The Fix: Stick to 1-2 times a week with a gentle exfoliant to keep things smooth without damaging your skin barrier.
3. Skipping Moisturizer (Yes, Even for Oily Skin)
The Whoops: Skipping moisturizer thinking itβll reduce shine can actually make your skin oilier as it tries to compensate. The Fix: Hydrate for balance! Even oily skin needs a light, oil-free moisturizer to stay happy and healthy.
4. Ignoring Pillowcase Hygiene
The Whoops: Skipping regular pillowcase washes leads to a buildup of dirt, oil, and even old skincare products. The Fix: Swap your pillowcase at least once a week (or every few days if youβre acne-prone) to keep your skin in the clear.
5. Forgetting to Stay Hydrated
The Whoops: Not drinking enough water can make your skin look dry and dull. The Fix: Sip throughout the day and add water-rich foods like cucumber or watermelon to keep your skin hydrated from within.
6. Skipping Sunscreen
The Whoops: Going without sunscreen exposes your skin to UV damage, which can lead to premature aging and sunspots. The Fix: Make SPF 30 or higher a daily habit, rain or shine. Your future self will thank you!
7. Neglecting Your Makeup Brushes
The Whoops: Dirty brushes collect bacteria and oils, which can transfer to your skin and cause breakouts. The Fix: Clean brushes weekly to keep your skin fresh and breakout-free.
8. Mixing Too Many Actives
The Whoops: Combining strong ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, and acids can irritate and stress your skin. The Fix: Use one active ingredient at a time, and rotate products on different days to avoid overdoing it.
9. Skipping the Double Cleanse
The Whoops: One cleanse isnβt always enough to remove makeup, dirt, and oil, especially at night. The Fix: Start with a cleansing oil to break down makeup, then follow with a gentle cleanser to get your skin truly clean.
10. Touching Your Face All Day
The Whoops: Constantly touching your face transfers dirt and bacteria from your hands to your skin. The Fix: Be mindful about keeping your hands off your face and wash regularly to avoid unwanted breakouts.

The Truth about Synthetic Ingredients in Skincare
As someone who is passionate about natural skincare, I often hear people talk about the dangers of synthetic ingredients in skincare products. While it's true that some synthetic ingredients can be harmful to our health and the environment, it's important to remember that not all synthetic ingredients are bad. In fact, many synthetic ingredients are safe and effective, and they can provide benefits that natural ingredients simply can't.
Β
One of the main arguments against synthetic ingredients is that they're not "natural" and therefore not as safe or effective as natural ingredients. This is simply not true. Just because an ingredient is synthetic doesn't mean it's automatically harmful. In fact, many synthetic ingredients are created in a laboratory using natural ingredients as a starting point. For example, retinol, a common anti-aging ingredient, is derived from vitamin A, which is found naturally in foods like sweet potatoes and carrots.
Β
Another argument against synthetic ingredients is that they're not sustainable or environmentally friendly. While it's true that some synthetic ingredients are not sustainable or environmentally friendly, this is not always the case. In fact, many synthetic ingredients are created using sustainable and eco-friendly processes, and they can even be biodegradable.
Β
Another common misconception about synthetic ingredients is that they're not as effective as natural ingredients. This simply isn't true. In fact, many synthetic ingredients are more effective than natural ingredients at providing specific skincare benefits. For example, retinol is a much more effective anti-aging ingredient than vitamin A, and benzoyl peroxide is a more effective acne-fighter than tea tree oil. Both of which are naturally derived, synthetic ingredients.
Β
So, what's the truth about synthetic ingredients in skincare? The truth is that not all synthetic ingredients are bad, and many of them can provide safe and effective skincare benefits. While it's important to be cautious and read labels carefully, there's no need to avoid synthetic ingredients altogether. In fact, many synthetic ingredients can provide benefits that natural ingredients simply can't, making them an important part of any skincare routine. Look for that ingredient label that list *naturally derived, next to the ingredients. Most of these will be safe to use and actually benefit your skin more than the root ingredient.
Β
Here is a list of synthetic ingredients that may be harmful when used in skin care products and should be avoided:
Β
Parabens: These are used as preservatives in many skincare products, but they have been linked to cancer and endocrine disruption.
Fragrance: Many skincare products contain synthetic fragrances, which can cause allergic reactions and irritation in some people.
Phthalates: These chemicals are used to make fragrances last longer, but they have been linked to endocrine disruption and reproductive harm.
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES): These surfactants are used to create lather in products like shampoos and body washes, but they can be irritating to the skin and eyes.
Mineral oil: This synthetic oil is used as a moisturizing ingredient in some skincare products, but it can clog pores and contribute to acne.
Silicones: These are used to give skincare products a smooth, silky texture, but they can be difficult to wash off and may clog pores.
Formaldehyde: This chemical is used as a preservative in some skincare products, but it can be toxic and irritating to the skin.
Β
It's important to note that the safety of skincare ingredients is often debated, and the potential risks of using certain synthetic ingredients may vary depending on the individual and the specific product. It's always a good idea to read the label and do your own research before using any new skincare product.
