Skincare After Menopause
What’s Really Going On With Your Skin (and What You Can Do About It)
Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get enough airtime: skin after menopause. Not in a “here’s how to look 25 forever” kind of way—but in a “what’s actually happening to my skin, and how can I take care of it now?” kind of way. Because there are changes. They’re normal. They’re rooted in science. And yes, there are gentle, natural ways to support your skin through them.
First things first: what is menopause doing to our skin?
Here’s the short version: your estrogen levels drop dramatically. And since estrogen has a hand in just about everything when it comes to skin—collagen production, hydration, elasticity, wound healing, even pigmentation—you’ll likely notice some shifts.
Here’s what that can look like:
Thinner skin: You might feel like your skin bruises more easily or just doesn’t have that same “bounce” it used to.
Dryness and irritation: Less oil production = more dryness. Your skin’s barrier also becomes more fragile, making it easier for irritants to sneak in.
Sagging and fine lines: Collagen and elastin—those two key structural proteins—start declining faster after menopause, which can lead to a more pronounced loss of firmness.
Slower healing and more sensitivity: Yep, your skin might be more reactive and slower to recover from breakouts, scratches, or irritation.
Shifts in tone and pigmentation: Some women notice more unevenness in tone or new sunspots that seem to appear out of nowhere.
None of this means anything is wrong with you. This is biology, not bad skin. Your body is doing what it’s supposed to do. But that doesn’t mean you have to settle for itchy cheeks or skin that feels dry no matter what you put on!
So… what does post-menopausal skin need?
It needs support. Nourishment. Hydration. And a little grace. You don’t need a 10-step routine or anything invasive to feel good in your skin again. You just need a few key ingredients that work with your skin—not against it.
1. Ceramides
Ceramides are naturally occurring lipids (fats) that make up the “mortar” between your skin cells. After menopause, your skin produces fewer of them, which weakens your skin barrier and leads to dryness and irritation. Replenishing ceramides helps seal in moisture and protect from the elements.→ Try: A serum or tonic with phytoceramides (plant-based ceramides) to restore skin barrier function.
Products that contain ceramides: Barrier Defense Serum and Brighten + Boost
2. Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
Think of HA as a sponge that holds water in your skin. It can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water—but levels decline with age. A good HA serum (especially one with both high and low molecular weights) helps plump up the skin, reduce the look of fine lines, and keep skin supple.→ Bonus tip: Always apply HA on damp skin and follow it with a moisturizer to lock in hydration.
Products that contain Hyaluronic Acid: Barrier Defense Serum and Wrinkle Defense Serum
3. Antioxidants like CoQ10 and Vitamin C
Your skin has its own antioxidant defenses, but they take a hit post-menopause. That’s where topical antioxidants come in. They fight free radicals (from sun, stress, and pollution), brighten the skin, and support collagen production.→ Try: A daily facial oil or serum with CoQ10, sea buckthorn, or bakuchiol (a natural retinol alternative).
Products that contain CoQ10, Bakuchiol and Vitamin C: Age Defense Serum and Beauty Balm
4. Fatty acids and botanical oils
Oils like avocado, camellia, meadowfoam, and pomegranate seed help strengthen the skin barrier, replenish lost moisture, and soften dry patches without feeling greasy. Your skin’s natural oil production slows way down after menopause—so giving it a little help can make a world of difference.
Products that contain Fatty Acid Oils: Age Defense Serum, Nightly Face Serum, Pomegranate Facial Oil
5. Gentle exfoliation
Cell turnover slows with age, and dead skin cells can build up, making skin look dull or feel rough. But aggressive scrubs and acids can backfire on fragile post-menopausal skin.→ Go for something like a fruit-based enzyme mask once or twice a week—just enough to nudge things along.
Products that contain Enzymes: Pineapple + Papaya Enzyme Mask and Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
The Routine: Simple, Supportive, and Science-Backed
Want a natural routine that doesn’t overwhelm your skin (or your schedule)? Here’s a solid 5-step plan that works beautifully for post-menopausal skin:
Cleanse gently — Choose a pH-balanced foaming face wash or a cleansing oil that respects your microbiome.
Mist or tone — Use a tonic that hydrates and preps your skin for serum (look for aloe, chamomile, or peony extract).
Layer a hydrating serum — Hyaluronic acid + ceramides = happy skin.
Seal with a moisturizer or facial oil — Something rich in fatty acids to lock in hydration.
Use sunscreen every morning — Mineral-based SPF, always. Sun damage = collagen loss.
That’s it. Simple, but powerful.=
One last thing…
There’s a lot of messaging out there that says aging skin is something we need to “fix.” We don’t buy that. Yes, your skin is changing—and yes, you can support it in beautiful, nourishing ways. But this phase of life is about becoming, not fading. It’s about listening to your body and working with it—not chasing some impossible ideal.
Take care of your skin the way you’d care for a dear friend: with attention, kindness, and a whole lot of love.

The Role of pH in Skincare
Skincare isn’t just about ingredients—it’s about balance. Your skin’s pH affects everything from barrier strength to how well your products work. In this post, we’ll explore why maintaining a healthy pH is essential for glowing, resilient skin, how everyday products can throw it off, and simple ways to restore harmony naturally.
How to Know If Your Moisturizer Is Actually Working
If you’ve ever wondered whether your moisturizer is doing more than just giving your skin a quick drink, you’re not alone. True hydration goes beyond surface-level moisture—it’s about how well your products support your skin’s deeper layers and barrier function. In this post, we’ll break down how your skin works, what an effective moisturizer should do, and how to tell if it’s really keeping your skin hydrated and healthy.
Why Your Night Routine Might Matter More Than Your Morning One
Your skin doesn’t clock out when you do—it shifts into repair mode. While you sleep, collagen production and cell renewal peak, making your nighttime routine one of the most powerful tools for healthy, radiant skin. Even if you’re exhausted, those few mindful minutes before bed can make all the difference. In this post, we’ll explore the science behind your skin’s circadian rhythm and how to make your evening routine simple, effective, and restorative.

Jewels’ Skincare Regrets: What I’d Tell My 30-Year-Old Self
If I could go back and talk to my 30-year-old self, I wouldn’t say much about the future—except this: take care of your skin.
Like many women my age, I grew up in a time when we didn’t talk about sunscreen unless we were already burned and then we just smothered ourselves in aloe! We also didn’t have well-defined skincare routine in our teens. There was no YouTube, no clean beauty blogs, no TikTok tutorials. And honestly? I didn’t even know where to start. Growing up on a farm, I spent a great deal of my time outdoors. IN THE SUN! Not knowing that the damage would show up later in life.
But now, looking back, there are a few things I wish I had done differently. So if you’re younger than me—or just feeling behind when it comes to skincare—consider this a note from a friend who's been there.
Here are my biggest skincare regrets—and what I’d do differently now.
1. I didn’t wear sunscreen growing up
Like... at all. And I learned the hard way.
When I was 13, my family took a vacation to Disney World. On the way there, we stopped at Water World and spent the whole day riding slides and soaking up the sun. And I didn’t wear sunscreen.
The next day, I had full-on sun poisoning—blisters all over my chest, vomiting, chills. It was awful. It ruined the rest of the trip, and honestly, it still affects my skin to this day. My skin burns much easier where the blisters were and I have way more age spots in those areas.
Sun damage adds up, and you don’t always see it right away. I wish I had known that sunscreen isn’t just for summer—it’s for every day. Rain, snow, clouds, and everything in between.
2. I didn’t properly cleanse as a teenager
We didn’t grow up with skincare education, and I had no idea what I was doing. So when I started breaking out in my teen years, I didn’t understand how important cleansing was.
I also made a mistake a lot of people make—I picked. Constantly. I thought if I could just get rid of the bump, the acne would go away faster. But all it did was lead to worse skin and more inflammation. I struggled with acne all through high school because I didn’t have the right tools or support.
Now? I wish I could hand my teenage self our Acne-Supporting Kit: This is enough. Be gentle. Just be consistent.
3. I experimented without really understanding my skin
In my early 20s, I moved to Washington, D.C.—which is beautiful, but so polluted. I was just beginning to realize that my skin needed more care, but I didn’t really know where to start. So I did what a lot of women do—I went to the Clinique counter.
It didn’t go well. I had a full allergic reaction, and instead of helping my skin, it set me back. I felt frustrated and overwhelmed. (and broke :(
There was so much trial and error in those years—and so little real guidance. Call me naive, but I didn't even know there were aestheticians to help you with your skin! I never knew what a facial was or even why I should do one!
4. I didn’t find my groove until Simple Body
It took years—decades, really—before I started to understand my skin.
And honestly, everything changed when I started formulating Simple Body products. I read EVERYTHING I could get my hands on...and still do! I watched educational videos. I went to school. I followed scientists and experts in the skincare fields. I was a literal sponge soaking up every bit of knowledge I could find! I wasn’t just throwing things at my face and hoping they’d work. I was learning. Studying. Testing. Listening to other women’s stories. Watching my own skin respond to plants, oils, herbs, and time.
Now, I don’t think of skincare as a chore or a fix. It’s a rhythm. It’s a relationship. It’s how I thank my skin for everything it’s carried me through.
So what would I tell my 30-year-old self?
Wear the sunscreen.Cleanse your face every morning and night—especially if you’ve been sweating, wearing makeup, or just living in a big city.Don’t panic when your skin changes—it always will.Start simple. Be consistent. And listen to your skin instead of fighting with it.
You don’t need a medicine cabinet full of products. You just need a few clean, high-quality ones that work with your skin—not against it.
If you're still finding your groove, that’s okay. It’s never too late to start treating your skin with the kindness it deserves.
Would you like to share your own skincare journey with me? I'd love to hear about it!!! Jewels@simplebodyproducts.com

Why Movement Helps Your Skin Look and Feel Better
Healthy, radiant skin isn’t just about what you apply—it’s about how you move. Gentle, consistent movement like walking, yoga, or dancing helps increase circulation, deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin, and support your body’s natural detox process. In this post, we’ll explore the science behind how movement benefits your skin, why it’s more effective than you think, and simple ways to incorporate skin-loving activity into your day.
3 Simple Ways to Add Mindfulness to Your Skincare Routine
Skincare isn’t just about what you put on your face—it’s about how you feel while doing it. And let’s be honest, sometimes our routines are so rushed that we barely remember if we put moisturizer on at all. If you’ve ever found yourself washing your face while mentally running through tomorrow’s to-do list, you’re not alone.
That’s where mindfulness comes in.
So… what exactly is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment, without judgment. It’s not about being perfectly calm or sitting cross-legged on a mountaintop. It’s about slowing down just enough to notice what’s going on—what your skin feels like, what your senses are picking up, what your body needs. And your skincare routine is a perfect place to start.
Here are three easy ways to bring mindfulness into your daily skincare ritual (no incense required... but honestly I light a Palo Santo incense cone every morning in my bathroom!):
1. Turn your routine into a mini ritual
Instead of rushing through your cleanser-serum-moisturizer combo, treat it like a few minutes of peace in your day. Make your space feel like a retreat! That means sight, sound, and scent are important. Take a minute to light a candle or incense, put some meditative music on Spotify (my favorite is Forest Bathing!), take a minute to really look at your skin and appreciate it. Stay present and feel the water temperature. Notice the texture of your cleanser. Take your time massaging in your serum. It’s not about being slow, it’s about being aware. I can PROMISE YOU... when you move through your routine with mindfulness and take the time to set the stage, you will feel SO MUCH BETTER when you start your day. I used to think these little rituals were silly and thought to myself "who has the time for this!" But honestly, it's now the best part of my day. Leaving the house feeling relaxed versus rushed makes all the difference in the world for me! I feel set up for success!
A tip we love: keep your products organized and easy to access, so your routine feels inviting instead of overwhelming.
2. Use your senses to anchor you
Your skincare is already sensory—it smells good, feels good, and often looks beautiful too. Use that to your advantage.
When you apply our Rosewater Toner, really breathe in the scent. When you glide on the Nightly Face Serum, notice how it glides on your skin and leaves a dewy finish. The essential oil blend that I created for the Nightly Face Serum was specifically designed to have therapeutic properties to help you get a better night's rest. So, when you take a minute to inhale the oils, you're setting yourself up for a good night's rest! When you massage in our Beauty Balm, pause for just five seconds to enjoy the warmth and richness of the texture. Inhale the delicious essential oils that are in the Beauty Balm! These therapeutic oils have the ability to alter your mood and lift your spirits! These tiny pauses connect you to your body—and help signal to your nervous system that it’s time to rest.
3. Drop the pressure to be perfect
Mindfulness isn’t about doing everything right—it’s about noticing without judgment. If your skin is breaking out or looking dull, don’t let that inner critic run the show. Instead, ask: “What’s my skin trying to tell me?” Maybe it needs more hydration. Maybe it’s reacting to stress. Either way, tuning in with curiosity instead of criticism helps you take better care of yourself—inside and out.
Bottom line:
You don’t need a silent retreat or a spa day to practice mindfulness. You just need a few quiet minutes, your favorite products, and a willingness to notice. When your skincare routine becomes a time to connect with yourself—not just fix something—it becomes way more nourishing.
And bonus: your skin notices the difference too.
Will you give it a try???? Email me and let me know! I'd LOVE to hear how it goes!

From Field to Face: The Plants Behind Our Favorite Skincare Ingredients
At Simple Body, we believe great skincare starts long before anything touches your skin. It starts in the soil—with the flowers, herbs, and plants grown by people who care as much about purity as we do about performance.
We don’t just “use botanicals.” We rely on them. Many of the ingredients in our products are grown and harvested by farms and farmers we trust—most we’ve sourced from for over a decade. These plants aren’t filler. They’re the soul of what we make.
Here’s a look at just a few of the plants we’ve come to love—and why your skin loves them too.
Calendula: The Skin Soother
Golden, gentle, and powerful—calendula is a workhorse in our lab. Known for its calming, anti-inflammatory properties, this flower is a go-to for dry, sensitive, or irritated skin.
We slow-infuse dried calendula blossoms into oils for weeks, creating a rich base that goes into products like Skin Rescue, Nipple Relief Balm, and our Body Butter. It’s especially loved by customers dealing with chapped skin, windburn, or recovery after sun exposure. We've also recommended it to people with eczema and have seen phenomenal results!
Chamomile: The Calmer
If your skin feels itchy, reactive, or just off, chamomile is just the thing. It contains natural compounds that help reduce redness and irritation—and it smells amazing too.
We use chamomile in multiple forms:
As a floral water in our Chamomile Foaming Face Wash
As an herbally infused oil in our Sensitive Skin products
And in our Skin Rescue balm, where it joins calendula and yarrow for ultimate skin repair
Rose: The Romantic (and the Restorer)
Rose isn’t just a pretty scent. It’s deeply supportive for mature, dry, or tired skin. Rose floral water helps balance the skin’s pH, calm inflammation, and deliver light hydration with a boost of antioxidants.
We use rose floral water in our:
Rose Foaming Face Wash
Rosewater Toner
Age-Defying Tonic
It’s especially loved by women experiencing skin changes in their 40s, 50s, and beyond.
Yarrow: The Forgotten Healer
Often overlooked, yarrow is one of those ancient plants with powerful skin benefits. It helps tone and tighten skin, reduce excess oil, and promote wound healing.
We include yarrow in our Skin Rescue, where it works beautifully with calendula and chamomile to calm, strengthen, and speed up the skin’s natural recovery cycle.
Lavender: The Balancer
Beloved for its calming scent and ability to soothe the nervous system, lavender is also amazing for acne-prone or sensitive skin. It gently cleanses, supports healing, and helps reduce irritation.
You’ll find it in our:
Lavender Foaming Face Wash
Wrinkle Defense Serum
Barrier Defense Serum
When skin needs calming and clarifying, lavender always shows up.
Rosehip: The Rebuilder
A natural source of vitamin A, fatty acids, and antioxidants, rosehip seed oil helps with fine lines, discoloration, and skin regeneration. It’s lightweight, absorbs quickly, and supports collagen production.
We use rosehip in our Eye Defense Serum, where it works with bakuchiol and astaxanthin to bring noticeable results—without irritation.
Pomegranate: The Powerhouse
Cold-pressed from the seeds of pomegranate fruit, this oil is deeply hydrating and full of punicic acid—a fatty acid that supports elasticity, smoothness, and cell regeneration.
Our Pomegranate Facial Serum contains nothing but 100% organic pomegranate oil. It’s one of our simplest—and most powerful—products for aging skin.
Plants Are Our First Partners
We could talk all day about these ingredients (and trust us, we often do). But what matters most is this: we choose every flower, root, and herb for a reason. Nothing is trendy or random. Each ingredient brings something vital to your skin—and your story.
So the next time you open one of our jars or bottles, take a second to imagine the plant it came from. The field it grew in. The care that went into harvesting and infusing it. And how beautiful it is that something so simple and natural can bring your skin back to balance.
Because skincare shouldn’t just work. It should mean something.

The Truth About Natural Deodorant: What Works, What Doesn’t, and Why Ours Actually Delivers
Switching to natural deodorant doesn’t have to be a struggle! If you’ve ever dealt with odor, irritation, or confusion about what’s “normal” during the transition, you’re not alone. In this post, we’ll break down what happens when you switch, why sweating is healthy, and how to find a natural deodorant that truly works for your body chemistry. Plus, we’ll share why our Simple Body deodorant is a longtime customer favorite for both men and women.
Why Our Body Butter Feels So Good (and Actually Works)
For years, I avoided body butters because most left my skin greasy and my clothes oily. When we set out to create our own, I had one rule—it had to feel luxurious and absorb beautifully. The result? A European-style formula made with shea, cocoa, and kokum butters that melts into your skin, leaving it silky soft without a trace of heaviness. Here’s how we did it—and why it’s become one of our bestselling moisturizers.
5 Daily Habits That Help Your Skin More Than You Think
Even the best skincare products can’t work their magic if your daily habits are quietly working against them. From how often you wash your pillowcase to the way you apply your moisturizer, small changes can make a big difference. In this post, we’re breaking down five simple, science-backed habits that help your skin thrive—so your skincare products can finally do their job.
Clean Skincare on a Budget: Where to Splurge vs Save
Let’s face it—clean skincare can feel expensive. And while we’re all for investing in your skin, that doesn’t mean you need to drop a paycheck to have a healthy, glowing complexion. The key? Knowing which products are worth the splurge, and where you can confidently save without sacrificing results.
First, Understand Your Skin's Priorities
Your skin changes with age, seasons, and stress. Before building a routine, ask yourself:
Is my skin dry, oily, sensitive, or a combo?
Am I targeting signs of aging, breakouts, or barrier repair?
Do I wear makeup and/or SPF daily?
Understanding your skin’s needs helps guide smart purchases—especially when you're watching your budget.
Embrace Skinimalism: Less Is More
Skinimalism is all about simplifying your routine to only what your skin truly needs. That means:
Don’t use an eye cream or extra serum unless you really need one. If your regular serum is gentle enough, it can often double as your eye treatment. Be careful though, you don't want to use a serum that has essential oils in it around you eye! It can damage your barrier and lead to contact dermititis.
Stick to 3–5 core products. A cleanser, toner or tonic, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen is plenty for most people. For those that have sort of "normal to dry" skin and are in their 20-30s. Often times, less is more. Creating a simple, effective routine with high quality ingredients can be a great way to help you save money on your routine!
Use actives wisely. If you're over 30, don't skip on ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or bakuchiol that support long-term skin health. As our bodies production of these essentials decline, you'll want to seek out serums that have these ingredients to incorporate into your routine! Sometimes serums will contain many of these ingredients bundled into one. Those are high-performance serums and not only make your routine simpler, but more cost effective when you can find a serum that combines many of these high performance actives.
If you're in your teens, keep it super simple. Your skin is still adjusting and often doesn't need much more than a gentle cleanse, light hydration, and the occasional exfoliation. (and SPF!!)
Don’t double cleanse unless you wear makeup or SPF. For bare skin, one good cleanse is usually enough.
Choosing concentrated products with no fillers also means you use less, save money, and reduce waste.
Where to Splurge
1. Serums with Active Ingredients This is where the magic happens. Serums often contain concentrated ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, bakuchiol, or coenzyme Q10 that support deep hydration, firmness, and skin repair. A good serum can transform your skin—and yes, it's worth the investment. 2. Facial Oils Cold-pressed, nutrient-rich oils like pomegranate seed, rosehip, and camellia oil feed your skin with antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Look for oils that are pure and organic to get the most benefit. 3. Eye Serums or Creams The skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate. A high-quality formula designed for this area (especially one with astaxanthin or bakuchiol) can reduce puffiness, fine lines, and dryness without irritation. Often times, your Eye serum or cream can double as a facial serum or cream too!
Where to Save
1. Cleansers Cleansers don’t stay on your skin for long. You need them to be gentle, pH-balanced, and effective—but they don’t need to be expensive. A good foaming face wash or cleansing oil can do the job without the high price tag. 2. Toners & Mists While lovely and refreshing, toners are mostly water-based. Look for ones with beneficial ingredients (like witch hazel, rose water, or gotu kola) but don’t overspend here. 3. Moisturizers You can find deeply nourishing face creams made with shea butter, glycerin, and botanical extracts at an accessible price. What matters most is the ingredient list—not the brand name or luxury packaging.
Tips for Getting the Most Value
Use less than you think. Most products are over-applied. A few drops of serum or a pea-sized dollop of cream goes a long way.
Stick to essentials. You don’t need 10 products. Start with 3–5 that really work. Think cleanser, toner and moisturizer....but don't skip the SPF!
Look for multi-taskers. Products like a beauty balm or face oil that can double as a primer or nighttime moisturizer give you more bang for your buck.
Buy refill sizes. If your favorite cleanser or toner comes in a larger bottle, grab it. You’ll save money (and reduce waste).
Choose concentrated formulas. They last longer, perform better, and reduce the need for layering multiple products.
Look for Kits! Often times, skincare kits will save you money by buying your routine all at once! Many times they will come with a free cosmetic bag too!
Affordable Can Still Be Amazing
Clean doesn’t have to mean costly. At Simple Body, we create skincare that delivers real results using ingredients from nature—and we do it without inflated pricing. Because we believe everyone deserves healthy skin they feel good in. Smart skincare doesn’t mean buying more. It means buying better. And that starts with knowing where to spend and where to save.
