How to Reduce the Appearance of Age Spots Using All-Natural Sunscreen
Those little brown marks that start appearing as we spend years in the sun—they’re commonly called age spots. While they’re a normal part of aging, unprotected UV exposure makes them more visible and numerous. The great news? By switching to a thoughtful, all‐natural sunscreen and applying it properly, you can both help prevent new age spots and reduce the appearance of existing ones.
We’ll walk you through why mineral sunscreen matters, how to prep your skin, how to apply it for best results—even how to reduce that tricky white cast many mineral sunscreens leave behind. Plus: why we now recommend the “think” line of sunscreens in our shop.
1. Why Use an All-Natural, Mineral Sunscreen
Choosing an all‐natural sunscreen means choosing protection that’s gentle on your skin and the environment. Mineral formulas (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) act as physical blockers—reflecting and scattering UV rays rather than absorbing them.
Key benefits:
Gentle for sensitive skin or conditions like rosacea and eczema. thinksun+1
Often enriched with botanical extracts and antioxidants—so you’re getting sun protection plus skin nourishment.
Better for marine ecosystems (reef safe, no oxybenzone or octinoxate). allnaturaladventures.com+1
By swapping to a clean mineral formula, you’re giving your skin the best chance to fade existing pigmentation and stop new spots from forming.
2. How to Prepare Your Skin (and Avoid the White Cast)
Mineral sunscreens can sometimes leave a visible white cast, thanks to the zinc oxide or titanium dioxide particles. But a little prep goes a long way.
How to prep:
Cleanse your face to remove oil and allow even application.
Exfoliate gently (using a mild polish or enzyme mask) to remove dead skin cells so sunscreen sits flatter.
Moisturize with your Daily Face Cream (or lighter moisturizer) so the sunscreen glides on more evenly.
This base creates a smoother surface and helps pigments from appearing chalky or uneven.
3. How to Apply Your Sunscreen Properly
Good application matters. The best sunscreen won’t work if it’s applied too thinly or missed spots.
Steps for proper application:
Choose broad-spectrum SPF 30+ mineral sunscreen.
Use enough: For face + neck, about a teaspoon.
Dot method: Place small dots of product on forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, neck.
Blend thoroughly: Use fingertips in circular motions; don’t forget ears, hairline, sides of neck.
Make sunscreen your last skincare step — no serums or creams on top.
Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors or after sweating/splashing.
Pairing this with a lightweight mineral makeup layer is optional but can offer extra coverage for age‐spot areas.
4. Protect Against More Than Just Direct Sun
We often think of sun damage as coming only from direct sunlight—but there are other less obvious sources too.
Digital screens emit low levels of UVA/UVB and high‐energy visible (HEV) light, which can contribute to pigmentation.
Reflected UV from surfaces like water, sand, mirrored sunglasses, or even snow can bounce rays onto your skin.
Using your mineral sunscreen daily—even indoors or under lighting—helps reduce cumulative UV and visible-light exposure that can worsen age spots.
5. Why We Love the “think” Sunscreen Line
Since we no longer carry All Good, we’ve shifted to the “think” line of mineral sunscreens because they meet our standards for clean, effective, skin-smart sun care.
What sets them apart:
Non-nano Zinc Oxide formulas (no chemical UV absorbers) thinksun+1
Broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, water/sweat resistant options
Lightweight formulations designed to blend well and work under makeup
Reef-safe and environmentally conscious
We recommend two in particular:
Thinksport Clear Zinc Sunscreen SPF 50 — great for face + body, daily wear.
Thinkbaby Clear Zinc Sunscreen SPF 50 — gentle, effective, ideal for sensitive skin or anyone avoiding chemical UV filters.
Final Thoughts
Age spots are common—but you do have control. By making smart sunscreen choices, prepping your skin right, and applying consistently, you’re giving yourself the best chance to fade existing spots and prevent new ones. Go mineral. Go thoughtful. Your skin (and our planet) will thank you.

The Benefits of Using a Facial Toner
Toners have made a comeback in a big way over the past few years. But not all toners are created equal, making it difficult to know which one is right for your skin. At Simple Body, we’re here to help you understand how toners can improve your skin’s health, where they fit in your skincare routine, and how to choose the best one for your unique needs.
Why Use a Facial Toner
Toners are lightweight liquids applied to the skin—either as a facial mist or with a cotton pad—immediately after cleansing.Traditionally, toners were used to remove leftover residue from harsh soap-based cleansers. But modern cleansers are formulated to clean without stripping the skin, so do you still need toner?Absolutely!
A good toner can:
Tighten and minimize the appearance of pores
Provide an extra layer of hydration
Restore and balance your skin’s natural pH
Remove any remaining dirt, oil, or impurities
Prep your skin for deeper moisturizer absorption
How to Choose the Right Toner
Many toners contain astringent ingredients that help tissues contract and tighten, giving the skin a smoother appearance. Natural floral waters (hydrosols) and bark extracts make excellent all-natural tonics for this purpose.
Simple Body offers two toners designed for different skin types and needs:
Rosewater Facial Toner
Beneficial for: All skin types (use caution with sensitive skin)
Simple Body’s Rosewater Facial Toner is an infusion of Rosa damascena petals, cherished since the 7th century for its soothing, balancing properties.Rose offers numerous therapeutic benefits—it’s rich in vitamin C, acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, and even supports emotional relaxation through its calming aroma. These qualities make rosewater a gentle, restorative tonic that hydrates, tones, and brightens the skin naturally.
How to use:After cleansing with your favorite Foaming Face Wash, close your eyes and mist Rosewater Toner on your face, neck, and décolleté. Follow with Daily Face Cream in the morning and Nightly Face Serum in the evening.
Routine: Wash → Tone → Moisturize
Clean Sweep Toner
Beneficial for: Oily, combination, and acne-prone skin
Simple Body’s Clean Sweep Toner deeply cleanses pores without overdrying the skin. Formulated with Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) bark extract, it helps balance oil, reduce pore size, and calm blemishes. Hydrating aloe vera and essential oils with antimicrobial properties help unclog pores and prevent future breakouts.
How to use:After cleansing, apply Clean Sweep Toner with a cotton pad (avoid eye area). Follow with Daily Face Cream in the morning and Nightly Face Serum in the evening.
Tip: Even oily skin needs moisture! Using a moisturizer with oils that mimic your skin’s natural sebum can actually reduce oiliness over time.
Finding a Balance
You can easily tailor your toner use to your skin’s needs:
Combination skin: Use Clean Sweep only on oilier areas like the T-zone and Rosewater on drier areas.
Cyclical breakouts: Switch from Rosewater to Clean Sweep during hormonal flare-ups.
Dual routine: Try Rosewater Toner in the morning and Clean Sweep before bed for balance.
Remember to perform a skin patch test before full use—especially if you have sensitive skin. Apply a small amount on the inside of your elbow and wait 24–48 hours to check for any reaction.
The Bottom Line
A toner is more than just an optional extra—it’s an essential step in creating balanced, healthy, radiant skin. Whether you’re drawn to the soothing qualities of rosewater or the clarifying effects of witch hazel, Simple Body has a toner that fits beautifully into your skincare ritual.
As always, stop by our Colorado Springs shop or contact us for personalized skincare guidance—we love helping you find the perfect match for your skin!

How to Care For Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin can be incredibly frustrating and painful to endure. So many people find their way to Simple Body looking for solutions to a lifetime of struggle. One of our favorite things is finding skincare solutions that heal and calm sensitive, irritated skin and change that frustrated, hopeless customer into a life-long Simple Body friend.
What is Sensitive Skin
Signs and Symptoms
Sensitive skin is a sensory reaction with visible signs triggered by contact with something in the environment (cold, heat, sun, pollution, moisture). Symptoms include redness, flushing, rash, itching, stinging, burning, tingling, dryness, and skin thickening. Other visible signs of sensitive skin include acne, atopic dermatitis (acne, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, psoriasis), pimples, and erythema (red patches caused by irritation of superficial blood capillaries). The primary location is usually on the face but can occur on the forearms, hands, and scalp.
Causes
Cosmetics, climate changes, and skin barrier impairment are the main factors that contribute to skin hyperreactivity. Also, skin reactions can intensify when specific environmental changes are present, like low temperature, humidity, wind, heat, and sun exposure. Common triggers are fragrances, preservatives, emulsifiers, emollients, UV absorbers, certain foods, latex, and other chemicals. Unfortunately, irritating ingredients in cosmetics are primary triggers, especially if an individual has an altered epidermal barrier.
Fragrance- 16% of the population has a fragrance sensitivity. If you have signs of sensitive skin, we recommend fragrance-free or unscented products.
Preservatives- are the most common cosmetic allergens in most personal care products. These include formaldehyde, parabens, isothiazolinones, thiomersal, and imidazolidinyl urea.
Emulsifiers and emollients- Two common allergens found in personal care products and cosmetics are Lanolin (sheep sebum) and Propylene glycol, often used as a solvent, humectant, and emulsifier.
UV absorbers- Several products containing UV light filters irritate sensitive skin, like benzophenone 3 and 4.
Skincare for Sensitive Skin
Simple Body recommendations:
Moisturizers and lotions for dry skin can help maintain and restore skin barrier function and mitigate irritation and reaction. For most people, avoiding common triggers can help prevent reactions. However, skin is unique to each individual, and sometimes even natural ingredients are a problem. Thankfully, the prevalence of botanicals and essential oils in personal care products and cosmetics has increased over the past few years as people become more knowledgeable about harmful chemicals and toxic ingredients. Even though natural ingredients are remarkably better for your health and the environment, it is still possible for people with sensitive skin to react to them, especially essential oils.
So, how can you avoid a significant reaction from a new ingredient? Besides avoiding common triggers, perform a skin patch test on a small, inconspicuous part of your body, like the inside hinge of your elbow (elbow pit). Apply a small amount of product and wait 24- 48 hours to see how your skin responds. If a reaction occurs, wash the area thoroughly.
Simple Body has several options for people with sensitive skin, and we are happy to answer questions about which products to use for your particular skin challenges. In most circumstances, the routine listed below will work well for individuals with sensitive skin.

The Benefits of Layering your Moisturizer
With so many types of moisturizers on the market, choosing the right one for your skin type can be confusing. Do I use a cream, butter, serum, oil, or lotion? Proper skin hydration comes in many forms and doesn't always come in just one bottle. Layering your moisturizer has tremendous benefits for addressing your skin's specific needs. Let's walk through a few skincare scenarios together and discuss how to hydrate your skin by layering your moisture.
Scenario 1:"I don't have any pressing skin issues, but I need a little more moisture."
Wash your face with one of Simple Body's Face Washes, uniquely created with different skin types in mind: Rose Face Wash for mature skin, Chamomile Face Wash for sensitive skin, Lavender Face Wash for combination skin, and Peppermint Face Wash for oily or acne-prone skin. Next, use a toner to tighten and tone your pores: Rosewater toner for normal, dry, mature, or sensitive skin, or Clean Sweep Toner for acne-prone, combination, or oily skin. Then, moisturize your skin with Simple Body's Daily Face Cream. Appropriate for all skin types, we designed this cream with two purposes in mind: to penetrate deeply and form a protective barrier on the skin's surface. It is a fantastic cream for anti-aging.
At the end of the day, wash your face and tone just as you did in the morning. However, you will apply Simple Body's Nightly Face Serum instead of Daily Face Cream. Our serum blends certified organic extra virgin Olive Oil, Sesame Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Jojoba Oil. The properties of these oils combine to make an antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory-rich moisturizing serum perfect for nightly hydration. Additionally, we added a blend of essential oils that will help you relax and give you a better night's sleep, allowing your skin the time it needs to replenish and repair skin cells.
Scenario 2: "My skin feels dry halfway through the day."
Use a Face Wash, Toner, and Daily Face Cream in the morning. Then apply a small amount of anti-aging Beauty Balm, especially to areas that need the most moisture. We use Jojoba oil, a humectant, to draw water into the top layer of the skin. This Balm also contains a large percentage of vitamin C and pumpkin seed oil. Both ingredients reduce free radical damage that can cause fine lines and wrinkles.
Before bed, wash your face, remove any makeup, apply a toner, and add nightly face serum for moisture. Finish by layering your moisturizer with Simple Body's anti-aging Beauty Balm, adding antioxidants and the nutrients necessary to replenish hydration to your skin.
Scenario 3: "My skin still feels dry all the time!"
Genetics, living in a dry climate, and working outside are a few reasons your skin may need an extra layer of protection and assistance to stay hydrated during the day. Begin with face wash, toner, Daily Face Cream, and anti-aging Beauty Balm. Then apply Pomegranate oil to dry areas, dark spots, and fine lines and wrinkles. Pomegranate oil nourishes and softens skin, reduces puffiness, boosts collagen production, and evens skin tone. It also shields skin from the sun's harmful U.V. rays!
End the day with face wash and toner. Then, blend the Nightly Face Serum with a few drops of Pomegranate oil before applying it to your whole face and neck. Seal in moisture by applying anti-aging Beauty Balm to areas prone to dryness.
Scenario 4: "My skin is mature and feels excessively dry."
You may have had oily skin all your life and suddenly notice that you can't get enough moisture. As we age, our skin becomes less efficient at retaining hydration. Yet, another reason why layering is so essential! Your morning skincare routine will begin the same way with face wash and toner. However, before you apply your Daily Face Cream, hydrate your skin with Pomegranate oil and finish layering your moisturizer with anti-aging Beauty Balm (our FAVORITE natural anti-aging skin care product).
Use all three layers of moisture (Pomegranate oil, Nightly Face Serum, and Beauty Balm) before you go to sleep and wake up with glowing, radiant skin. So, by layering different kinds of moisture, you can treat varying degrees of dryness! Each person is beautifully unique, and so is your skincare routine! Knowing ways to work with your skin to give it what it needs to retain hydration, protect it from the stress of daily activities, and prevent premature aging at every stage of life, is easier than you think. Hopefully, this guide will give you the confidence to tailor our products to meet your individual skin care needs.
Shaving tip to Avoid Razor Bumps and Burns
For most of us, summer is the season when we start shaving above the knees again! Wearing skirts, sundresses, shorts, and swimwear requires us to step up our shaving game. Men have the unfortunate task of shaving year-round. We get questions from men and women alike asking for shaving tips to avoid razor burns and bumps. Have you ever wondered why you get razor burn or razor rash after shaving? Let's take a few minutes to discuss how to prevent common shaving issues and have smooth and healthy skin.
STEP ONE: EXFOLIATE
Good shaving hygiene requires some prep work! The most effective shave starts with a smooth surface. Exfoliating your skin can prevent dry, dead skin cells from building up and clogging your razor and, more importantly, your pores. Simple Body has several products to help you exfoliate before you shave. One of our favorites is the Bamboo Face Polish! Yes, I know, it says Face right in the name. However, you can use this all over your body to prepare your skin for shaving. Using eco-friendly, finely ground bamboo stem and white kaolin clay, plus the moisturizing power of cocoa butter and castor seed oil, the ingredients in this polish leave skin smooth, silky, and free of debris.
STEP TWO: PRETREAT WITH OIL
Next, pretreat dry skin with oil. Natural oils like apricot kernel, sweet almond, and sunflower seed oil provide the perfect base to feed your skin the rich moisture needed to prevent razor burn caused by dry, irritated skin.
STEP THREE: SHAVE
Now, you are ready for your favorite shaving butter or cream. But before you pick up your razor, you should know a few things about preventing razor burn. Did you know that using a dull razor, having dry skin, and shaving against the direction your hair naturally grows can all cause razor burn? Also, razor burn is more common in people with Keratosis pilaris. You may have had this your whole life and never knew what to call it. It is when keratin blocks hair follicles and causes tiny bumps to form, usually on the back of your arms or upper thighs, making it feel rough and bumpy. The cause is unknown, but regular exfoliation and moisturizing can smooth out skin and minimize your risk of getting razor burns when you shave.
Another skin condition that can throw off your summer shave game is Folliculitis or razor rash. This condition occurs when bacteria or a blockage causes redness and swelling in hair follicles. You may have experienced razor rash if you have ever combined shaving with heat, tight clothing, and sweat. It is more common for people with naturally curly hair or other skin issues like eczema or acne-prone skin. Use Simple Body's Clean Sweep Toner as a preventative antimicrobial razor rash treatment. With ingredients like Aloe Vera to soothe inflammation and certified organic essential oils to keep fungus and bacteria at bay, the Clean Sweep Toner is a vital player in your summer shave game.
STEP FOUR: SOOTHE
After you shave, you will want to tighten your pores and soothe your skin. Using the power of plants, Simple Body's Skin Rescue is the perfect balm for the job. Two of the skin-healing botanical ingredients in this balm are Marshmallow and Yarrow. Marshmallow Althaea officinalis root is an antibacterial, cooling plant that softens and soothes hot, dry tissues. And Yarrow Achillea millefolium has so many properties that attenuate skin healing. It is antimicrobial to protect miner cuts from infection, astringent, meaning it pulls tissues together, and vulnerary, meaning it promotes healing. Believe me when I say, Skin Rescue to the rescue!
STEP FIVE: MOISTURIZE
Last but not least, moisturizer! If you love your skin, especially in a dry climate, apply Simple Body's Body Butter or Daily Face Cream (which is a fantastic cream for anti-aging). Three A+ oils that make our Body Butter special are Apricot, Almond, and Avocado. Apricot kernel oil is moisturizing and nourishing to the skin, Sweet Almond oil has a composition that closely resembles the lubricating oil (sebum) our skin naturally makes, and Avocado oil is full of nutrients that penetrate deep into the skin. Stay hydrated all day with one of Simple Body's four Body Butter choices: Unscented, Citrus, Lavender, and Himalayan Magic.
By following these shaving tips and using the right all-natural ingredients, you can have smooth, razor-burn-free skin!
Product favs:
We love this single-blade safety razor. It's better than multiple-blade razors and eco-friendly!Another staff fav is the EOS Dry Skin Shave Cream! It's super thick and leaves your skin soft as butter!

The Complete Guide to Dry Brushing: Benefits, How-To, and Why It’s So Good for Your Skin
Our skin is one of the body’s most powerful detox organs—it works hard every day to eliminate waste, regulate temperature, and protect us from environmental stress. But like any hardworking system, it needs a little help to function at its best.
That’s where exfoliation comes in. Whether you’re using a Cotton Bath Pouf or Emulsified Sugar Scrub in the shower (a wet exfoliation), or practicing dry brushing before bathing, these simple habits support your skin’s natural renewal process and overall health.
Both methods are gentle, inexpensive, and effective, but dry brushing offers deeper benefits that go beyond smooth skin—it can actually support your entire body’s wellness.
Benefits of Dry Brushing
Dry brushing does more than just sweep away dead skin cells. It’s a full-body ritual that promotes circulation, boosts energy, and supports detoxification.
Here’s what makes it so powerful:
Lymphatic Stimulation: The rhythmic brushing motion encourages lymphatic drainage, helping your body flush out toxins and reduce inflammation.
Improved Circulation: Dry brushing invigorates the skin, stimulating both blood flow and the nervous system.
Exfoliation: Gently removes dirt, oil, and buildup that can clog pores or cause dullness.
Smoother, Softer Skin: Regular brushing helps soften rough areas and improve overall tone and texture.
Metabolic Support: The stimulation of the lymphatic and circulatory systems can even help boost your metabolism.
In short, dry brushing is one of the simplest, most natural ways to improve both skin and body health.
How the Lymphatic System Works (and Why It Matters)
About one-sixth of your body is made up of the space between cells. The fluid in that space—called interstitial fluid—flows into lymphatic vessels, which then carry it to your lymph nodes. There, waste products are filtered out before returning clean fluid to your bloodstream.
The lymphatic system relies on muscle movement to keep things flowing. If we sit too long, move too little, or carry too much tension, this system can slow down, causing puffiness, fatigue, or inflammation. Dry brushing creates a reflexive response in the skin and underlying tissue that helps re-energize this process—essentially “waking up” your body’s natural detox pathways.
How to Choose the Right Dry Brush
Not all brushes are created equal. The type of bristle makes a big difference in both comfort and hygiene.
What to look for:
Natural bristles are gentler and less likely to irritate dry or sensitive skin.
Avoid synthetic bristles—they can be too harsh and tend to trap more bacteria.
Choose a handle length that fits your needs:
Long Handle Dry Brush – ideal for reaching your back or legs.
Handheld Dry Brush – perfect for arms, décolletage, and smaller areas.
At Simple Body, we carry both cruelty-free, vegan, natural bristle options:👉 Body Dry Brush (Long Handle)👉 Handheld Dry Brush (Short Handle)
How to Dry Brush (Step by Step)
A few minutes a few times a week is all it takes.
Before you begin:⚠️ Avoid brushing over broken skin, cuts, eczema, acne, or sunburn.
How to do it:
Start with completely dry skin before bathing.
Beginning at your ankles, use gentle, circular motions, always brushing toward your heart.
Move up the legs, abdomen, and then arms, adjusting pressure based on sensitivity.
Once finished, shower as usual.
After bathing, nourish your skin with a rich moisturizer like our Body Butter—a blend of apricot kernel, sweet almond, and avocado oils with kokum, cocoa, and shea butters. It seals in hydration and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth.
How to Clean Your Dry Brush
Regular cleaning keeps your brush effective and hygienic.
To clean:
Place your brush bristle-side down in a shallow dish of warm water (avoid submerging the wooden base).
Add a few drops of Tea Tree or Eucalyptus essential oil to disinfect.
Swirl gently and soak for five minutes.
Rinse under running water, then shake out excess moisture.
Dry quickly—use a hair dryer for a few minutes or place in a warm, dry spot to prevent mold.
Clean your brush about once a month if you dry brush several times a week.
Wet vs. Dry Exfoliation
While dry brushing is great for deep stimulation, wet exfoliation with an Emulsified Sugar Scrub or Cotton Bath Pouf can be gentler for thin or sensitive skin. Both methods work beautifully together—alternate them depending on your skin’s needs and the season.
