Every product we make at Simple Body begins with a person. A story. A need.
It’s not just about ingredients on a label — it’s about the friends, family, and customers who’ve shared their lives with us, and in turn, shaped what we create.
Where It All Began
For me, it started with my mom. She was just 62 when her memory began to decline, and I remember wondering why this was happening so soon. After a lot of digging, I found something that made my stomach drop — one of the ingredients in her antiperspirant had been linked to memory loss.
That discovery opened a much bigger door. I learned that countless ingredients banned in Europe and Japan were still being used in products Americans put on their bodies every single day. It made me angry. It made me protective. And it made me determined to do something about it.
So I went to school in Europe to learn how to formulate skincare to those higher, safer standards. My first mission? Create a natural deodorant without aluminum chloride that actually worked. After plenty of trial and error (and some very patient testers), our deodorant became the very first Simple Body product — and it’s still one of our bestsellers today.
Replacing One Product at a Time
From the beginning, I wanted people to feel like switching to natural skincare was doable — one product at a time, not an overwhelming overhaul. Living in Colorado’s dry climate meant every formula also had to be genuinely moisturizing, not just sit on top of the skin.
One of my earliest inspirations came from my friend Jen. She was pregnant and planned to cloth diaper her baby, but couldn’t find a diaper balm she trusted. In my research, I came across a recipe for a Native American salve made before antibiotics — a slow, two-day infusion of herbs and oils over an open fire to pull out their healing properties. I still use that method today when making Skin Rescue, which not only cleared her baby’s diaper rash but also helped with cradle cap, red cheeks, and other skin irritations.
Jen also gave me one of the mottos we still live by: “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your body.”
Listening to Our Customers
Over the years, our customers have been some of our best product developers — simply by sharing what they needed.
-
Lou has been with us since the early days. She has beautiful skin but wanted to age gracefully, inspiring me to create products in our age-supporting line.
-
Cat, a restaurant server, struggled with persistent acne from working in a busy kitchen. That led to the creation of Clean Sweep Toner, which, along with a natural routine, cleared her skin completely.
-
Mario, a mechanic with dry, callused hands, needed something deeply healing. I created our Body Butter with him in mind, and he’s still a loyal customer to this day.
Every jar and bottle on our shelves carries a little piece of someone’s real-life story.
The Moments That Remind Us Why
If there’s one thing that fuels me, it’s hearing how our products have made a difference.
Like when Sarah’s two-year-old daughter Delia accidentally burned her leg with boiling water. Every cream they tried made it sting — until her mom handed her Skin Rescue. Delia applied it herself, and it didn’t burn. She’s seventeen now and still calls it her “owie cream.”
Or the countless times someone has told me, “This deodorant is the only one that works for me.”
Or when our friend Cammie shared that Eye Defense had made such a visible difference in her skin.
Or Brenda texting that her knees were rough, and after using Skin Rescue and Body Butter, she saw improvement every single day.
Those moments are why we do what we do.
The Team Behind the Counter
The people who inspire Simple Body aren’t just customers — they’re also the women who work beside me.
-
Amy, our Head of Production, is like a sister to me — loyal, passionate, and incredibly skilled. She balances hard work with a rich life outside the shop, inspiring me daily. She takes care of our customers like they’re her own family and has a heart as big as her talent.
-
Emily, Amy’s daughter, works in marketing and keeps us young and in the know with the latest trends. She’s smart, creative, and as sweet as they come — like a daughter to me.
-
Jen, once a customer and now part of our retail team, is kind, thoughtful, and full of warmth. She inspires me to eat clean and live well.
They’re more than a team — they’re part of my family.
You’re Part of the Story, Too
When I look at the shelves in our shop, I don’t just see products. I see faces. I hear stories. I feel the connections that make Simple Body more than a brand — it’s a community.
If you’ve ever shared your feedback, stopped by the shop, sent us a message, or gifted our products to someone you love, you’re part of this story, too. And I’m so glad you’re here.
xoxo
